Help me! Admin login needed for one page on site! - 4/28/2009 11:28:35
Hi, ive only been doing website design a while but have made my first site for my cricket club. Ive come up with an idea that i would like to do on the site. Basically every week the team gets picked by 3 different captains and they want the data on the site. Ive made a basic additional page so far for it to go on. www.stonecricketclub.co.uk/teamselection.html

However i would like them to be able to login via a box on that page and just add data to the table. All very straight forward im sure for someone on this forum. Would really appreciate the help!

Thanks for your time guys

There are lots of login scripts out there. Depends on what your server can handle. PHP, ASP.net? First check that out and then do a google search for login script. If you need to keep track of users with different passwords then yes, you will need a database.

FrontPage has a really easy way to handle logins but it is for a directory and you need the FP extensions enabled on the server.

Great question from a new designer. Great answer! Good luck with your login page - should work the first time with no problem. Oh, and every time after that too!

As to ".....taste for quality and luxury...."; at my age, I'm glad to be able to taste at all!

Aye...

Ive done the log in but and added an login.asp page. Do i need to enable a text editor on that page or something? because i need to be able to then edit that page when logged in.

Thanks !!

FCKeditor will only work when attached to a db or some way of recording what's submitted within the text box.

There are scripts such as Snippetmaster that add editable areas to a page that in theory they could update. The problem is the table that the info has to go in... An HTML table is fairly complex in itself and I think you'd run the risk of them damaging the table when updating.

I'd say have a look at snippetmaster - build the table yourself and then see how hard/easy it is to update. If it's looking ok - then great. If not then you might need to go for something more robust which would probably mean server-side scripting and a DB. I'd have a form with a text field (not a textarea) for each position on each team. That's then updated weekly via a passworded form. All info stored on a DB. Not too difficult to set up.
