Desperate for help with Google Analytics - 6/3/2009 22:20:24
I've posted about this problem in the Google Analytics forum for a couple of days, pleading for help, but no reply as yet. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me.

I've been using Analytics since last September with no problems until now. I recently made structural changes to the headers and footers of my site. (Site was using a Frontpage theme, but now it uses my own headers, footers and navigation code, pulled into each page with FP includes.) This change got a bit messed up the first time and I noticed a slight drop in the traffic numbers in GA. I corrected what seemed to be the problem, but the problem only got worse. I first tried adding the Analytics code at the bottom of the "included" footer code, but suddenly the traffic dropped to a mere trickle (4-12 visitors per day, when 4-digit daily traffic is normal). To be on the safe side, I pulled the GA code out of the footer, got fresh code from my GA account (in case the old one had become a problem) and manually copied it into the bottom of every page: below the footer code and right before the </body> -- exactly what the instructions say to do. View Source shows that this is in fact what has been uploaded. But my GA traffic still shows only single-digit daily traffic, while other stats for my site show normal traffic levels.

My GA account status shows it is receiving data, but it's just a trickle. I'm at wit's end trying to figure out why it's not working, after it had been working without a hitch for months. I've gone through all the troubleshooting tips on the GA Help site. I had long ago created a filter to exclude my own IP, and although it still looked okay I deleted the filter yesterday just in case it had become corrupted somehow, but yesterday's traffic still only shows a daily total of 4 visits. I've gone 6 days with this change-and-wait syndrome and showing almost no traffic. I've run out of options to even try. I'm hoping to make some changes to my site in the near future that would require showing off some good traffic numbers, so this is coming at the absolute *worst* time possible!

Would someone pretty please take a look at my website and see if you can help me figure out what's going on? I would so appreciate it. Thanks very much!

Seems everyone else was as stumped as I was. I finally got an answer that works from the GA help forum, so I'll post it here in case someone else has the same problem. I put the code in the <head> section, immediately before the </head>. My traffic numbers seem to be back to normal now! Yay!! :)

I suspect some javascript code I had added to my footer might have been conflicting, which apparently happens sometimes. If that happens, try putting the code in the Head section. Hope that helps someone else!
