New Web Theme - 6/20/2009 18:14:06
Well, once again I'm changing my site around and wanted your input on the layout and appearance of my new theme. The theme is incomplete right now but I thought it was worthy of a look over.

Please comment.......

Thanks!!!

Just getting a background image in FF... Had a look in IE and it looks like it's all flash which isn't really a great idea - fine for bits and pieces but I wouldn't have everything (content, navigation etc) as flash as you risk people not seeing it.

Apart from that - I know it's just at the test phase but make sure you don't use inline styling if possible as it's really inefficient.

Try www.themekings.net/home.htm to get past the splash page. I understand some still do not install flash plug-ins but I still enjoy them in some parts of my site(s). The only flash I have is the splash page..... Have you cleared your cookies from the last visit Tailslide? Just a thought.

Ok I see it now.

The first thing I'd say would be that you can only use an ID once on a page or you risk all sorts of "bad things" happening so I'd go in and replace the ID with classes - that way you can use them again.

I'd also use ems to size your nav boxes otherwise they'll break if the text is enlarged.

Also - to save yourself a little work you don't need to add the class navlinks to every link item (which should be a list rather than paragraphs!) - just add a class to the list itself and you can style everything "under" that really easily.

I'd definitely use HTML headings (e.g. one H1 for your main page title etc) not only because that's the semantic thing to do (plus it aids accessibility) but because search engines like them.

Outstanding! Thanks for your input. You have to remember from our previous conversations that I've lived by the "table" design and swore by them in fact, but I'm learning more and more about CSS and I'm loving it! I appreciate your input, and I'm now off to make sense of what you just said and apply it to my design.......

Thanks buddy!
