IE8 Compatability Mode Tracking - 6/23/2009 9:56:46
Greetings,

I've got a client site using the Superfish menu program which exhibited some unusual layer indexing behavior when viewed in Compatibility Mode in IE8 (which appears to work differently than the X-UA-Compatible Meta Element that I have set to IE7).

While I was able to set the client's mind at ease by having them turn off Compatibility Mode, I'm wondering if there's any way via scripting (server or client side) to track the volume of Compatibility Mode users and to feed them custom stylesheets. In a pinch, CSS hacks wouldn't be back to know as well.

Thanks in advance for your time!

"unusual layer indexing behavior" is a fat bunch of nothing....maybe a link to your page?
Almost all jQuery problems come from simple CSS issues. The superfish menu has always had some z-indexing problems--do your sub-menus appear underneath the content div?
Take a look here: http://webdemar.com/webdesign/superfish-jquery-menu-ie-z-index-bug/
Sniffing for browsers is "backwards looking" and fragile at best. I would NOT go that direction but here's some code of you decide differently: http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/res_sniff.htm
