Cemetery records incoperated into a web site help please - 7/8/2009 17:38:32
Our church has a database (access) which has the records of our two graveyards. I would like to incorperate this information into a web site so people could enter a name they are serching for and have the results of the serach displayed on a page. This will enable family historians to conduct research. I am using Frontpage 2000. Ideally I would want to haveall the information uploaded on the web site with the researcher only being able to access the results of the serch there is no need for them to be able to add information.

I am new to frontpage and need a step by step guide to this.

Would appreciate any help anyone can give.

Have had a play with the insert database results menu but it gets confusing as it does not display the database and I don't know how to do the query bit.

Thebuilt-in FrontPage help files should tell you the procedure. Your Access Database for the Web will be slightly different than an Access Database you use as a standalone database and reporting system. You cannot have built-in queiries, etc. for the database you want to use on the web. Simply put the db in a folder named fpdb inside your root web and start Front Page. Tell it to create a database results page and then follow the wizards instructions.

Thankyou for this reply Have tried what you suggest and it works thankyou but what I want to be able to do is provide an area for the web page visitor to enter in the surname they are looking for and for the results to be then displayed. I don't want to display the entire database.

As you're going through the sequence of creating your database results page click on the "More Options" button then the "Criteria" button. (In your case I assume you would use the surname field). Continue creating the results area but be sure that the "Create Search Form" check box is checked before clicking Finish. That should do what you're looking for.

Be aware however that the user will have to exactly duplicate the entry in the database for there to be any records returned.

New photogalleries, stop by sometime.
Or you could just view the old stuff.
