Frontpage Website & Mac - 8/4/2009 11:50:58
Hi there. I have had my website through Frontpage2003 for quite a few years now and do all of my own work on it. I am not a computer wiz or techie and wanted to know if there would be any problems running my site with Frontpage if I buy a Mac? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions! - Jan-

Having posted that Frontpage would definitely not work on the Mac I've actually discovered that there was a Mac edition!!

BUT far as I can see it's pretty old (released 2000! ) and so unlikely to work on the latest Mac OS.

You'd be better off with a more competent editor such as Dreamweaver or better still learn to hand-code if you have a little time on your hands - there are tons of freebie HTML editors out there that will do the job better (if not easier) than FrontPage.

There is the dual boot Mac OS which I don't know a lot about but I think allows you to have a version of Windows on the mac alongside the mac OS - maybe you could use FP with that? Although I don't even know if you can buy Frontpage any more so you may be out of luck!

Thanks for your input:) Here is a scenario. Let's say that I did get a Mac and installed a Window's OS.....which I will probably do so that I can back and forth (especially while learning). Can I reverse publish my entire website onto that new computer? I am having lots of issues with my old computer, and really need to upgrade soon!

There are people here much more informed than I am (and so hopefully they'll correct me if I'm wrong!!).

If you get a Mac with a dual boot system (bootcamp - http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/compatibility.html ) you'll be able to run XP or Vista on the mac.

The problem as I see it is that FrontPage is no longer available for sale, far as I know. MS dumped support for it. So as MS only give licences for software for a single machine you'd have to buy new software.

MS now offer Expressions as a replacement for FrontPage although from reading posts in this forum it sounds quite different and a bit of a learning curve for FPers.

You could, therefore in theory, buy Expressions and load that onto your mac to use under Windows. You could also buy Dreamweaver or use any of the free HTML editors in either Mac OS or Windows OS.

You could download your current site via Expressions or FTP onto your mac and edit it using any piece of software you like but it wouldn't be the same as using FP.

Probably Expressions will be the closest thing to FP but I'd ensure you check it will work under dual boot before buying it!
