Publishing trouble - 8/6/2009 10:37:53
I operate a fairly large website for a client who, when I took a leave of absence, was convinced by my replacement to change webhosts and signed up with GoDaddy. Took forever to get the publishing to work because the client runs at least 5 or 6 different domains from this one account and different people are trying to post to it. Now the client wants to take advantage of some "new" features with the hosting service and create some webpages himself. Which is okay - however in doing this they have moved my site to a different location now, the structure is different and now I cannot publish any updates to the site. Further more, Godaddy support is of no help, just get told the file structure must be changed and that I am old fashioned and should not be using FP anymore. Can anyone help?

Help you do what? Publish?
Are you using HTTP to publish? That requires the server extensions to be installed...are they?
You say "the file structure has changed"...well, I bet not...everything is probably still in the folders you put it in unless your replacement willy-nilly decided to rearrange the folder structure (this is a personnel problem and not technical). Did you really mean to say that the navigation structure was Front-Page based? (Parent pages--child pages--etc.?) And THAT bit is messed up? Remember that (1) editing software is MOST effective when the user understands html/javascript/CSS code. This is why Notepad is a darn good editor...it doesn't write code for you, and (2) Front Page is a discontinued / unsupported product that does write invalid and deprecated code. Can you still use it? Of course! Should you let it write code for you? No!

And as a side note. GoDaddy is probably one of the worst web hosting companies out there. They are good for registering domains but that is all. This forum has many posts from people that have had problems with GoDaddy hosting.

TexasWebDeveloper is correct. You need to answer his questions. If you want to stick with Frontpage you can but I would recommend that you move up to Expression Web.
