Front Page and ActiveX errors! - 8/25/2009 12:20:49
I belong to a club that plays computer civil war games by e-mail. I have designed a Main Page for the Confederate side of the club at
http://www.acwgc.org/CSA_CoA/

Some of the members have mentioned that they get some sort of ActiveX problem with this page.

I have just sent off an e-mail asking the following questions.

1. What message do you get telling of this 'error'

2. What OS are you using?

3. What browser are you using?

4. Have you tried any other browsers?

Is there anything else I should ask to figure this problem out?

In IE8 none of the applets are working for me (XP).

Don't forget the doctype on the home page.

I've had someone else tell me something about doctype, but don't really understand what it is and since then, I've lost the link.

Personally I wouldn't use applets for the navigation - for this very reason. Any sort of flash or scripted navigation runs the risk of not working (maybe people's security up high or scripting switched off) and then you've got no nav and your site is paralysed.

You could use plain html css hover images which should achieve very nearly the same effect. You'd have the "on" and "off" images as the same image (one on top of the other) and then use CSS to show/hide the relevant bit.

Here's one tutorial on it - but there are loads: http://www.webdesignerwall.com/tutorials/advanced-css-menu/
