Converting From Frontpage to SharPoint Designer - 9/28/2009 12:06:41
My web site http://www.fcsomers.com was created using FrontPage 2003. I realize that there is some bad MS specific code that prevents the site from displaying properly in FireFox and Safari. I have decided to switch to SharePoint Designer but would like to "repair" the obvious visual problems on the current site, For instance the title banner is shifted off center when using Firefox or Safari. Can anyone help me in identifing the code that needs to be fixed or is there a way to use SharePoint Designer to fix the problem automatically? Thanks.

Actually the replacement for Frontpage 2003 is Expression Web. EW is a better program then Frontpage as it is more standards compliant. Have you looked at EW? I use EW version 2 as version 3 still has some interface problems with a fix expected soon.

Yes I am aware of EW but SharePoint Designer is essentially the same. both are MS products that work with the same engines. Never the less, how do I fix problems that are already encoded with the FrontPage code without expertise in HTML coding?

OK, I looked at your source code for the home page and it has some errors. No program that I know of will fix those errors. You will need to do it yourself. If you don't know how then get a book on HTML and CSS and learn how to do it. Also look at other peoples web sites and look at the source to see what they did. You can also look at free templates and use the stuff you already have and copy it to the template. (Like your photos). For starters, use a valid DOC type. Look it up on Google if you don't know what I am referring to. You have <body> stuff before your <html> tag. That is a no-no. You have "FC S0MERS SOCCER CLUB" positioned absolutely. That is why it is not positioning correctly in FireFox and other browsers.

you may find this useful http://infohound.net/tidy/ but be sure to make backups of any pages before tidying them!
