PUBLISHING ERROR HELP - 10/1/2009 14:53:30
Hope I have the right forum category????
Having a major problem. Even though I have been doing some web site work for the past six years, I am still a female novice at 68 years old, without formal training!

My long-time host server (WebStrikes-they were great) sold out this spring to a terrible company. After months of looking I now have a decent host, but have run into problems because I did not have a good backup. Was not aware that you guys did hosting at the time!

However, have managed to get one site back online, but now when I try to publish necessary changes I receive the following exact message, which has been going on for several days.

Mine/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/ Feeds/Microsoft Feeds ~ does not refer to a page or folder in this web. It may be a page or folder in a subweb, or it could be a badly formed URL

I understand the first part are the paths from my computer but do not understand the part about Microsoft and Feeds! How can I try to find this page or folder or bad URL?

I am completely lost, and desperately need help. In addition, 3 yrs. ago the owner decided on a new domain name, which I successfully changed and have not had problems until now.

The web site I am trying to publish too I originated about four and a half years ago..this is the web address http://www.baysideserenity.com/

Hoping you can help me, or point me in the right direction.
Thanks, Barbara

It might be referring to the FP hit counter you have on the home page. It requires FP extensions on your host. But, your problem may be caused by other factors. When you moved your site from one host to the another, how did you do that? Are you using FP extensions? Are they enabled on the new host? I also get a message that requests that I download additional plugins. If I don't know what those plugins are I will not download them. Just what is that javascript supposed to do?

Because I had limited backup I simply published the few files I had altogether, and then added new ones, and it worked. I had no backup from the old Host, simply because the new hosting company they sold out to, did not even notify me for almost six weeks!

Yes, I am using FP extensions and they are on. However, I just emailed support at my current host (3 essentials) with an account of the problem.

I do not recall getting a message about downloading new plugins. I don't usually download anything that is not from Microsoft.

I simply do not understand about 'Microsoft Feeds' etc. or where to look for the bad file or URL? :)

Just heard from my Hosting support.

Their message, "We have checked from our end by connecting through Frontpage to your website. We didn't able to recreate the error from our end and we were successfully able to upload a test page '3etest.htm' through frontpage to your website without any issues. We are attaching the snap shot and url http://baysideserenity.com/3etest.htm for your reference. Could you please try to connect to frontpage from another computer and try to upload files. "

I do not have another COMPUTER AVAILABLE!!!

I NEED HELP?:)

RE: PUBLISHING ERROR HELP-ANOTHER QUESTION - 10/1/2009 21:34:20
Just discovered a possible problem? I have been moving some web site files to new locations on my computer, in order to try to find the problem.

Now, I just noticed that when I open my 'index' file in FP that I now have TWO index files, one of which is showing an * on the FP open tab!!

What would this mean? Would this have to do with the problem? Should I delete one of these files, and if so, which one?????

Pick the one that is the correct index and delete the other.

RE: PUBLISHING ERROR HELP-ANOTHER QUESTION - 10/2/2009 0:17:15
Am going to try to relate and clarify my total publishing problem. This may shed some light on things for someone. Please remember that I am self taught and know little to nothing.....but have managed to keep going for six years with minimal help!

This is the first actual error message I receive verbatim..

Publishing Web Structure

Front Page has detected that changes you have made to the navigation structure conflict with changes another author has made to the web you are publishing to. What do you want to do?

Do not replace the navigation structure of the destination web.
Replace the navigational structure of the destination web.
Let Front Page merge the changes.

If you let Front Page merge the changes, It will publish the navigation structure but only replace another authors changes if yours is more recent.

Continue Cancel

This confuses me completely, since I am the original designer for the owner, and the only individual that has ever made any changes and updates to this web site, including now.

I did have a problem w/limited backup files when my original hosting server (after 6 years) sold their accounts out. Due to not even contacting me for at least six weeks, double charging me on three paid accounts at the time, not being able to speak w/anyone, and extremely poor, if almost non-existent Support, I looked for another HOST.

I went through another host, which I found out did not do FP extensions. Finally I found 3 Essentials.com, and have had to piece together two of my three web sites. I gave up the third one, due to not having enough backup. My original Hosting Co. kept a backup at all times..and I have paid extra to have this company maintain a constant backup.

Once I choose an option, it shows 'papers flying' (publishing) which is the 'FP merge' option, then I receive the original error message I posted which is.......

Mine/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/ Feeds/Microsoft Feeds ~ does not refer to a page or folder in this web. It may be a page or folder in a subweb, or it could be a badly formed URL

After contacting my current Hosting server support, they double checked my FP extensions which are working and suggested that, I may have a 'Structural problem! "We request you to review your web page design. Make sure that you are using the correct URL for publishing.

I am not even sure how to go about this, particularly since I have made several sets of files on my computer trying to correct this problem!

I appreciate your attempting to help me. Hope you or someone, might give me a little more direction than I have right now. :)

Thank you, Barbara

That could be the source of some of your problems. You should have your website located in the folder called My Web Sites. Is it there? Open FrontPage, Files, Open Site. If FrontPage doesn't go to the My Web Sites folder then browse to it and doubleclick on the index page of your website. That should open the site in FrontPage for you. Next time you use the Recent Sites menu under Files to open that site if FrontPage doesn't open the last site you worked on automatically.

[font="Arial"]Have been able to publish some files today, by changing to the My Web location, and using the option to change the web site structure, but not everything!

I have a new error message which verbatim is.......

SERVER ERROR

The server extensions were unable to access the file "Thumbs.db.tmp". Please check the file permissions.

OK

How can I check 'File Permissions' or correct this kind of error?
Thank you, Barbara

I think you can probably delete that thumbs file with no problem. That probably was created by a photo program. I know Paint Shop Pro does that when you browse a photo directory.

Howerver, make a backup copy just in case and put it in some other directory not in your web.

RE: PUBLISHING ERROR HELP-ANOTHER QUESTION - 10/2/2009 22:20:13
I received this message from the Host support staff about four hours ago; then I tried to reload and received the same IDENTICAL error message!

"The issue was related with the permissions. I have rectified it.

Please check it now."

I contacted them again and get NO HELP. My web site is loading but why should this error message keep coming up?

I would delete the file but have not been able to fine it! Thank you for all of your help. At least I have made major progress, after all these hours.

I definitely miss my 'ole Hosting company of six years' that was located in Australia, but their support was superb, and always available.

Babs:)
