Pasting Word into Expression Web - 10/15/2009 19:29:41
I had finally figured out how to paste formatted text from MS Word into Frontpage with a minimum of fuss and adjusting. Now I've finally migrated over to Expression Web 2 and I just tried copying text from Word into EW for the first time and......I get even more doodoo in the code than I did in Frontpage! How can this be??!! Even an innocuous little format like bolding a word produces a hissy fit of MSO caca. Whereas Frontpage used to at least use the styles from the Word document that had the same name as the CSS of the webpage, EW seems to totally ignore them and tries to create its own styles. ARG!! Trying to search the EW help is a waste of time since it doesn't seem to know what MS Word is. I know Microsloth likes to do its own thing relative to the rest of the world, but even relative to its own software??? I finally figured out how to paste plain text into EW that uses paragraph tags, but it would be SOOOO nice to have it paste the styles too, the way Frontpage did. I thought EW was supposed to be the better of the two?? Sigh... Is EW able to do a better job of pasting? Or perhaps world peace would be a more realistic dream? Thanks for any suggestions or commiseration. Starhugger

You should not copy word docs in any html editor at all. Word has its own styling and does not work the editors. Use simple text and format and style with CSS only.

EW will strip the MS Word formatting also. After coping text from a word document you can use the EDIT menu option to Paste Text. You will get a menu with several choices. Use the paste as text to strip formatting. This works in Design View.

EW will allow you to paste pure text into your document but taking Jaybee's advice is best. Sometimes if you use the EW text only feature you may still get some code in your header. Get Pure Text, it makes life simpler.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess I'll stick with the search-and-replace of the code that gets dragged into EW. At least that way I don't have to reformat from scratch. Thanks for your help! SH
