Another annoying one for you - sorry guys! - 10/22/2009 12:15:35
Hi guys,

I do apologise for having you look at yet another tables/FF/Opera problem.
I know that I shouldn't be using tables for my layouts and that lots of this stuff is no good in other browsers except IE but at the mo I am just throwing ideas about, I can't settle on one particular layout option until I know whether I can clear this problem up so your help will be uber valuable.

You have always been kind to me before, I hate to bother you.

I am hosting a temporary site until I decide what to do with it at http://officialcb.freehostia.com/temp2.htm and as you will see, in IE everything is all sat well enough. In FF and Opera though, the whole thing is thrown out. I wondered if it was something to do with the inline frame as a file with the same layout with less content in seems to sit fine as can be seen at http://officialcb.freehostia.com/temp.htm

If any of you guys could throw an idea at me that may sort this then I would be really grateful.

Thanks guys :-)

Well, your first link don't has the backslash "/" before the "temp2.html", the second link has a period in the link.

:)

and btw, both links look pretty good in FF.

Sorry, that must be how mashed my brain has been after trying to sort all this out today, haha.
Thanks for your reply. So, as you are looking at it in FF, you are not seeing all the right hand side out of line with gaps between the cells etc? x

Oh I don't know what t think now, lol.
I also have FF 3.5.3 and I will attach an image I just cropped from my display to show you what I am seeing. HERE

The right had side is not staying flush with the main body of the page, the red stripe on the right is sitting away from where it should.
You guys aren't seeing that when you look?

Thanks for your time and patience, I appreciate it,
Andrea x

I see the red stripe, it sits flush on the right side of the content... however it appears there is some kind of anomole in the content section... it appears to extend past the "right" side of that area by a quarter inch...

Almost as if the background image in that area is too wide or something? It looks like it sticks out past the scroll bar, etc.

Is that what you mean?

other than that it all seems to fit together...

Hey thanks for your reply,
Yeah it looks like there is room for the background to start repeating when there should be no gap there at all.
It is fine in IE, all sites flush, no gap at all so I am wondering if anyone may have an idea what may be causing this in FF. :-)

Not sure... FF has always been the easiest to code for me. I was always trying to fix gaps and tweaks in IE that seem to work everywhere else.

That being said, I am not sure why the problem in FF.

I did notice that it isn't only the graphics... your scrolling marquis also dips past the line on the right.

Hi

Yeah there are a couple of things, the ones that you mention and also the black cell at the bottom has grown by about three times causing the red stripes on the sides to lengthen, you can now see a red line where it is supposed to end at the bottom.

I don't have a clue why it's happening, at first I thought it might have something to do with the inline frame but I altered that and made it really small to see if it would make a difference but it didn't so I put it back to the original size.

Thanks for taking a look for me, I appreciate it.
I got even more confused when others had said that it looked fine to them, started to think it was only me that could see it that way, lol.

Thanks again, Andrea x

Yep, I can see that too...

Not sure why... it looks like the background color extends past the graphic. Like there is a right edge where there is a drop shadow or an edge of some sort... then the white, red and marquis extend past it just a tad bit.

Not sure why... especially since it seems to be extending by a bit more above and below the main content section. That right side graphic edge is further to the left above the Flash, in the marquis and the red stripe at the bottom.

In the main content section it appears that edge is a few pixels further right than the areas above and below it?

Yeah, it is baffling me still as it does none of those things in IE, it all fits ok and looks passable.
Hmm, I may end up having to deconstruct it and put it back together bit by bit checking along the way to see it I can whittle it down to one thing where it all goes wrong, lol.
Thanks very much for your help. :-) x

Here is the problem:

<td style="padding-left: 10px;" colspan="2" valign="top" width="733" align="center" background="temp2_files/MidSnip1.png">

Delete the "padding style" for the "MidSnip1.png" image and it will be fine.

But honestly, you should look into CSS. Much less clutter in the code..... :)

No, I couldn't resist, I had to do it now, lol.
Thank you so very much, I can't believe it was something so simple and now I know, I also know why it happened. The cells were merged and I just mustn't have altered it from when they were seperate cells, D'oh!!
I can't thank you enough. The bottom bit is still larger than it should be but that I can live with for now, it's not as big a deal as this problem was.
Thank you for your help, Andrea x

I know, I really should learn the better way.
I have tried before but just don't know the best / easiest place to start.
I have looked for somewhere to start simply online but never find anything quite simple enough, I'd love to learn css, it would make my life so much easier.

I will keep trying, thanks again for your help.
Sometimes you can't see something for looking can you and a fresh pair of eyes is the biggest help.
That's why I love this place, you guys are great. Thanks again x
