Front Page viewing problems on Apples also with Firefox... - 10/31/2009 13:09:29
Hi,
We produced our marketing website in FP 2003 and was very happy with it (albeit that its a bit slow to load). We were using IE8 and stupidly perhaps thought that if it looked good with that browser we wouldnt have problems elsewhere. It appears that we were wrong. I have found out that the Lightbox 4 photogallery we used doesnt run in the above browsers or on Apple computers. All web page photos even thumbnails and banners look to be of poor quality and "grainy". Our site is www.holidayslanzarote.net - has anybody any fix for these problems that a very amateurish amateur can apply?

It also doesn't work in Opera - haven't checked Google Chrome though.

The problem is all that MS proprietary code and no Doc Type at the top of each page, it's not just you but all those who use FP in Design View. There is no quick fix for this, you just have to get your hands dirty in Code View and learn HTML in the process. Lightbox itself is not a problem when you have cleaned up your page code, it's perfectly possible to turn out clean, validated code with FP which will work in all browsers.

The following sites should get you started,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa218654%28office.11%29.aspx
http://www.webaim.org/techniques/frontpage/
http://www.htmldog.com/

Notetab lite can be used to strip html tags from your pages so that you can recode around the content.

You can do all this yourself if you are prepared to learn as you go. Alternatively you could hire a pro to do it for you if you are short of time. Best of luck. :)

This: "schemas-microsoft-com:office:office' tells us that someone used a MS office program other than FrontPage, to create this website. That in itself is a no no.

Your photos on the home page are gifs. Another No No. gifs are limited to 256 colors. That's why they look grainy. Always use jpg or png format for photos. jpg will result in smaller files.

There is no litetbox code on the page you provided. On the Casa Margarita page it looks like you used a slideshow that only works in IE. Doesn't work in Firefox either.

Like Cas says above, you can use Frontpage. If done correctly your website will play in all browsers. Including litebox for Apple users.

In my estimation Litebox is a better program than Lightbox.

Good Luck
