Whitespace in right margin of table cells containing text - 6/29/2001 18:45:00
Okay, I am going to have to start posting under different aliases so as not to make a total fool out of myself... I have searched the archives and reread the table primer for this one and I am still clueless (my next alias).I have a master table as the "content" area sandwiched between shared top and bottom borders. I have double checked all the pixel math and the table and paragraph properties to make sure there are no pads, space, or indents in any of the cells. It seems all cells in the master table containing only text have an internal right margin of approx 3/8". This space is very obvious when you right or justify align the text in a cell. There is no white space at the left, top, or bottom in any cell in the table. Some are merged cells, come are not. Some are in the left-most column, some are on the right. The cells containing an image or a component are fine; that is, I can push them right up against the right-side edge of the cell boundary if I so choose. I tried deleting the offending text and retyping it directly into FP. As a type, it wraps where the mysterious right margin seems to be set in the cell. Initially the table was smaller. After some design changes, it is now bigger, and it seems the text chunks did not fully take advantage of the new space I gave the cells in which they reside. This could be the byproduct of newbie delusional illusion. Everything else looks great and when I set the borders to 1 pixel, the table and cell borders are exactly where I want them to appear both in the normal, preview and browser views. It also prints correctly. Browser compatibility is set to IE4+ only. At some point, once I know exactly how I want the table to be sized (I am most concerned with locking down the horizontal sizing), how do I CHAIN THIS WILD FP BEAST DOWN and keep it that way? I just want the table to gracefully expand vertically as needed to incorporate content and keep those columns widths where I (finally) put 'em! Thanks to all for your patience! fried
