Adding blogs, templates question - 2/3/2010 9:59:31
I posted a response to an earlier thread that didn't have an answer, but I wanted to expand my question. First, has anyone successfully added a blog like wordpress to a FP2003 site with server extensions? Secondly, has anyone purchased a FP2003 template that had a blog functionality? Were you satisfied with it? Can you recommend a good place online to buy such a template (for under $200)?

Most any blog can be used with FrontPage. You need to see if your server can handle PHP or ASP. Then pick one of the free ones (or purchase the one offered by TexesWebDevelopers above) and just do it. Most have step by step instructions on how to implement it into your web site. By the way, I had one client that asked for a BLOG but what she really wanted was a section of her website that she could change herself. So ask your client what they really want to do with the 'BLOG"

Thanks for the responses. This is for a friend who doesn't know how to use FP. He wants to blog on his existing FP web site, and my webmaster skills are extremely limited. What is ASP? Is this something that can be inserted in a FP folder (website.com/blog.htm) and then can be accessed by someone who doesn't have FP installed on his computer? Would I have to install FP and teach him how to use it for him to upload his blog every day?

ASP=Active Server Pages - Has been replaced with ASP.net Insert ASP in a folder? Your blog, if you chose to use one, will have it's own folders. (If your server supports it.) Would I have to install FP for the client? No. not if the client only wants to blog. However, having said that, I would warn you a little about a blog. Almost ALL blogs that I have installed for clients are now stagnant. They start off making a couple of statements on their new blog and that is all. Most have no new stuff for over a year. Blogs are a waste of time for most working people and they soon get tired of it. So please charge your client an appropriate amount for your labor as they will soon tire of it and want you to update it for them. (Which I will not do)

I don't charge for building personal web sites for a few friends. I'm a rank amateur! My friend has been blogging for a few years on a site unrelated to his personal web site,. Now he wants to move everything to his personal site, which I had built a while ago with FP2003. I don't have the time to upload a new page daily for the blog, as you said, so I was hoping to add something that he could publish himself. His server company supports BlogEngine.NET and dasBlog which is an ASP.NET 2.0 application (just copying and pasting here, I don't know what that means).. Is there any way to integrate such a blog application into the rest of the FP web site, so it has the same design and shared borders?
