I have a question regarding .jpg graphics used in Frontpage. I used a fair amount of graphics in the development of a web site. I placed the web site onto the server. When viewed by a computer on the network of the server via a T1 line, the site loads all graphics and looks fine. However, when I view the site from a remote computer by a dial-up moden, not all graphics are visible. All .gif are but no .jpg. Is it that the .jpg are too large a file to process through a dial up moden? And would "crunching" them prior help? Also, how can I take a fairly large .jpg and have it load in segments, into fourths? Thanks

Stef

I think they would have to be pretty huge not to load at all. I recently was asked to look at a site that a colleague of mine from my veterinary days had made. He had 4 images on his home page that added up to a total of over 2 megabytes!! I know, unbelivable! But I have a modem connection and they did load - though I was able to take the dog for a long walk in the meantime!

Do you have a url so that we could take a look?

Optimising, or "crunching" the images is a good idea generally. There are some online tools for doing this but I use the optimiser form here and find it excellent: www.xat.com

Having said that if your images are not loading at all you may have a differnet problem.

To have an image load in segments just slice it in a grahics programe and insert each of the slices into cells in a table so as to reassemble it on the page.

Just for fun try .GIF (upper case) on one of those images that isn't appearing. I've run into this before and that worked.

Not sure why.
