XP/upgrade version of FP2000...best way? - 12/30/2001 22:07:09
Hi. I will shortly be upgrading to a new computer running XP. I have been using FP 2000 and several other upgrade versions (97, 98 etc) dating back to orig. purchase of FP for W95 on floppies!!! So what is the best way to install FP 2000 or even 2002 upgrade on my new computer? Do I have to install my first version - Frontpage for w95 via floppies first? Any ideas out there? Thanks!

I went from 98 to 2000 then to 2002. I guess it depends on whether you have the 2002 upgrade or full version. If you have the full version, just install it. It'll ask you whether you want to save or uninstall any previous versions.

With 2002, when you open a web, you can either open it live (from the web server) or from your local drive. Either way, your previous work will be there.

For what it's worth, 2002 is very nice! Good luck.

Thanks - I guess my question was really whether I should buy an upgrade or full version if the upgrade is going to be a huge hassle. What happens if I install FP for W95 (and then install the upgrade) on my XP system? I am legally and morally entitled to an upgrade since my old machine will be stripped of FP and relegated to the kids. Has anyone done a FP upgrade (either 2000 or 2002) on to a new XP computer?

I installed the FP2002 upgrade on my computer here at work, and it never asked for the previous version's disk (what normally happens if the program does not see a previous version). Like you, we have upgraded since FP97.

BTW, FP2000 or 2002 should work fine with XP.

Hope this helps.

Thanks WaterMan (and you too dpav29). That is what I was hoping would be the case.
Happy New Year!

I installed FP 2000 on XP Pro. Had some problems with updating existing web at first but have resolved them. All working O.K. now.

I also added FP 2000 to my new computer running XP Pro, then added the FP 2002 upgrade. Currently have them both on the machine. Have had absolutely no problems at all.

I believe all the XP software will ask you to stick a CD with 'eligible' software in your CD-ROM drive if it does not detect any installed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
