Ambrat -> Pics aren't appearing on the web (4/4/2001 20:36:00)

I am really new to all of this and have tried to maintain my site for about a month now. But apparently the images were never visible to anyone but me and no one felt the need to tell me that. I've visited a newsgroup to try to get help but I'm having trouble understanding what they're telling me. Something about clicking on an image and simply going back to my images folder and selecting that same picture again. That has done no good.

My site is: http://ambrat.hypermart.net (just a little site for me to experiment with and learn all of this fun new stuff). The path of my images is going back to my C: drive (file:///C:/My%20Documents/My%20Webs/myweb/images/Ambrats%20Savings%20Banner.gif) rather than showing the web address and such that it should (ex. http://www.ambrat.hypermart.com/images/Ambrats%20Savings%20Banner.gif How do I change this? I'm so new with this that I have no idea at all. My friends have recommended I use an FTP program but that too I know little about and am not sure if it is compatible with FrontPage.

I'm really eager to get my images up and going soon. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey, there...

Your source code is trying to call all of your images from your local hard drive. That's why they're not showing up.

Did you "publish" this site, or FTP it to your host server? If you use the File>publish web... feature, most likely that problem will go away. With FP you must "publish" the web to a host with FP extensions installed and working correctly.

Try "publishing" your web to your host and see if that helps. Forget the FTP with FP.

Open the web again in FP, r/click the images one by one and choose "Picture Properties" - in the Picture Source window, browse for the image again and make sure the resulting source code does not refer to your local drive - it should look somethinglike "/images/picturename.jpg"
Then republish or FTP the pages and images to your site.

BTW - I don't agree that FTP is no use with FP; I have dozens of site running, all uploaded with FTP - my ISP doesn't even support FP extensions.

There may be better ways to do it, but a super-simple way to correct your code is to go into HTML view in FP and delete file:///C:/My%20Documents/My%20Webs/myweb/ from each of your links.

Just leave the quotation marks, the word "images" and everything after that.

You have also got spaces in your file names. Right click on the file name in the Folders list > Rename > then rename the file using the underscore or closing in all blanks.

Good luck. You can do this!

I have published my site many times so I know that can't be it. So I've just finished renaming all of the images to eliminate spaces. And I cut the path to where it began with "images". I've done this for my first page so far and would like to know if it is working before I continue. Could anyone please let me know? Thanks in advance!

I see all the graphics on your index page.

Looks good to me. At some point you'll want to add the alt tags for them, but that can be done later.

Thanks everyone for your help! I think I may hae gotten my images to load properly finally. But I wonder how do I save my pictures to FP and place them on my site prior without having to go in and adjust the html page everytime?

Nancy, what is this about alt tags? I'm curious.

Thanks!
