lois wakeman -> SSL/IIS5 problem (1/2/2002 10:57:19)
|
Hi there, This is not directly FP-related, but I've always found people here really helpful :-) I have obtained and installed, apparently successfully, a security certificate from Thawte on a dedicated Win 2000 server running IIS5 and in the MMC, set the tick box to require SSL for the login page I wish to secure, e.g, https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/archive/index.asp When I try to access the page, I get "cannot find server or DNS error" (or, in Netscape, "connection refused"). http connections to other pages in the site are fine (and to this one if I remove the requirement for SSL). The same error happens if I use the local browser on the server itself. I tried creating a local hosts file on the remote pc to fudge the domain name in case this was the problem, but it isn't. And the answer is not the one in the MSDN knowledge base (Q265847), since I do not have certificate services installed. There are very many newsgroup postings asking about this error, and I haven't yet found one that gives the answer, worryingly. The tcp/ip settings are "all unassigned" (just the one site on the server) and the ssl port is the default 443. I did a netstat and it appears to be listening on the port. Any pointers to what I could try will be gratefully received - the client is getting pretty impatient about this and doesn't have the techical knowledge to understand why I don't just get on with it!
