user login and auto update - 1/2/2002 11:27:26
Hi everyone!

I've just discovered this forum, so first I wanna say that this is GREAT!

Now on to the questions:
1) I'm taking over a website for a dance organization, and I want to incorporate a members-only members directory (Access DB). How can I create a user login that allows only current members to register for access to the directory? I've seen posts about the Spooky login -- would that work for this purpose? Also, does it work with Earthlink's server (I don't know if it is Unix?)

2) Eventually I'd like members to be able to automatically update their member info by filling out a form. I'm concerned about security issues (i.e. one member changing another member's info). What safeguards do people usually use? I've considered either setting up a temporary db that accepts the update info (allowing a real person to view it before making changes to the master db), or somehow setting permissions so that an individual member can change only his record. Is this possible?

Thanks sooooo much!!!

You would be better off buying the Spooky Login as it is a great product and does bith things that you mention.

You will need to be running on a NT machine though as it uses MS Access for the backend.
