FPers

Why do I need spooky if I can do this:

To apply permissions to a subweb:

Open the subweb in FP Explorer.
Go to Tools/Permissions. (In FrontPage 2000 Tools/Security/Permissions.)
Check "use unique permissions for this web."
Click "Apply."
If you want to restrict browse access, click the "Users" tab.
Check "only registered users have browse access."
Click "add."
Add user and password.
Repeat the "add" command for all users you with to add.

Yeah, I know I am and always will be a newbie .

Thanks for your time

Thomas Brunt -> RE: Why do I need Spooky if the permissions...? (7/5/2001 18:13:00)

Lots of reasons. You may want to apply permissions to just a page or two and keep it in the root, or you may have registered users who forget their passwords on a regular basis. The Spooky login can send a password reminder to their email address. Also, the Spooky login can let the user choose the userID and password. You don't have to do it all manually.

Thanks for replying Thomas.

But what if I only want to give access to the people that work at my company?

Thanks,
Genny

If you can do those steps, then you dont need my login as you are more than likely on a Unix server

Okay... but FYI.... I am on NT.

You can't do that on NT - you need Spooky's login. And apart from his login everyone needs Spooky anyway

Oh
Those steps looked like a method of setting up a secure web for Unix, obviously you must have admin status?

But anyway, the difference is web based administration vs FP based admin.

My login is page protection vs directory (web) protection via FP

The login is a little more flexible when it comes to specifying different levels of permission, whereas FP is one level only.

Then you get the registration / send password extras as well.

So the application is perhaps slightly different.
