WEB DATABASE APPLICATION HELP!!! - 1/9/2002 9:49:16
I am trying to design a web database application in FrontPage 2000 but as I am mostly a network technician I have only had limited experience in designing or publishing a web site. I need some very basic questions answered urgently as I have a deadline to meet. The scenario is the following: I have to design an online car sales site which incorporates a search facility (various dynamic search criteria eg: car model, make, colour, etc. which would preferably be obtained from a database) and obviously a results page of the criteria selected. The client also wants to be able to track users movements around the site which must be tied in to the users name and details etc., in a database (obtained through a user registration form). I know this would entail using cookies or scripts, but I'm not really sure how to go about this or the database side of things. I have already managed to set up the html pages with links and hover buttons and all that, but now when it comes to the nitty gritty, I am stuck!!! Please let me know how I would go about creating database connections, results, cookies, etc. I dont even know if I should be using IIS or PWS with FrontPage 2000 or if it is enough to have server extensions on the hosts server... I would be very grateful if you could get back to me ASAP or point me in the right direction. Thanks a million!!!
