g-john -> which db software? (1/9/2002 14:23:22)

Hi
I want to setup a website based on database results. consider it would have double size trafic of outfront (not community but say classified or flat rentals directory, yellow pages etc.).

Is it advisable to use Access or FoxPro or any other on the base of: high number of concurrent users, faster retrieval thru sql, size, and etc and in general. Please also compare with your suggestions. Thanks n advance.

I know from experience (and it has been posted many times here) that you're only going to get about 10 users hitting your server concurrently before Access will break. Anything that size would definitely need at least SQL Server(Win servers) or mySQL(Unix). At least IMO....

ok say 30 visitors came concurrently and the access database broke or dies as the terms yu use.

what would happen to next visitor? will he be recieving error messages on the database region and what error and for how long will this be? i mean once broke is it forever?

I'm not posistive, but the browser would probably get timeout errors or 'page not found'....
