I have used Verisign in the past and had no problems with my registers (service was slow however) but have recieved offers from buydomains.com to renew at about 1/2 of the price that Versign gets. Anyone know of what the "catch" is >

I make a point not to do business with any company that sends spam, so that alone would keep me away if that's how you heard about them. www.godaddy.com offers domains for only $8.95 and is used by quite a few members here. The only "catch" is they offer other goods when you are going through the check-out... I personally will suggest NEVER ordering the photo cd. ...my own fault. Just a point - if you want to tranfer a domain to another registration company you would be best doing it at least a month before it comes due for renewal. The cost savings were a bonus. And do follow Abbeyvet's advice - contact your new registrar well before the renewal date. (in reply to fishinman)

I'm now only using GoDaddy, and at that price you can afford to keep ahead by at least an extra year, if not more. Jeff - if you aren't sure when registration is due, check with your current registrar. Depending on the registrar, the info may be at www.whois.org (is down right at the moment). You can add-on an additional year or more at any time.. this can also be done when transferring to a different registrar. btw - just checked http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois and enborne.com is registered until April 22, 2002. They buy the domains for $10 (.com, .org and .net) and resell at whatever price they like. More or less anyone can sign up to be a Tucows reseller at www.opensrs.com Not a thing wrong with that of course. Your domain will actually be registered by Tucows and should any of the resellers go belly up you are protected by that. However even the wholesale prices charged by OpenSRS are more than the retail prices at www.godaddy.com I have no idea how GoDaddy do what they do at such a low price but nor do I care as the service is excellent - well, the interface anyway, everything has always worked so smoothly I never had occasion to look for support - they do send reminders and it is all at the lowest price available anywhere.
