new site needs critique - 1/16/2002 4:21:48
Hi guys-Hope all is well. I have this week's project ready to come out into the light. www.mythandmystery.com Can I get a couple of you to take a peek at it and let me know what you think. There may be some loading comments. I did a tracert and got some good times from Europe, South America and Asia (highest being 21 seconds) but a terrible result from Australia (100 seconds). I can't wait to hear your comments. Thanks in advance.

OK that didn't work. Try this:

www.mythandmystery.com/

Hi Ray

Visited the site - have to say I nearly left again, the clock following the cursor was really annoying.

Anyway, with the blackground the red links are a bit dark I thought - how about a light grey - there are also some blue ones which are almost illegible. Do you need 2 sets of text links on the home page?

I couldn't find a page with any information on it - I guess you're working on that - should be interesting when you get it all together.

One general thing - would it be possible to have a navigation bar at the top of each page by splitting the links into categories - would make navigation simpler rather than having to scroll to the bottom of each page - just a thought

Best of luck with the site

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy. Thanks. I just needed one comment about the silly clock - gone. I changed the hyperlink color. I work on a laptop so I'm never exactly sure how everyone is seeing the site. I have fixed the nav bars on the info pages. The site is just an index with links to all these sites. Thanks. More?...

Ray,

Site averaged about 65 secs to load from Australia via a fairly slow dial-up connection (not on my normal computer/connection but I would guess it's running at something less than 33Kbps).

Quite an interesting but effective colour combo you have finished up with - certainly very readable.

Some of the links are bold - any particular reason?

Cheers

Ray,

Just checked with McAfee Speedometer and connection is running at 23Kbps (welcome to rural Australia!) so the 100 sec load must have been on a very slow connection.

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks, Bluey-I don't think I'll worry too much more about the time. I think, on average, it may be taking 30 seconds but I've been surfing through a lot of these type of sites lately and a lot of them take a loooooong time on my cable in the middle of manhattan. When I empty my cache, mine loads in 5 secs. Hmm... I think anyone looking for this info will not mind waiting a couple extra seconds. Maybe I'll trim down the flash. I'm still at the point where I like it, though.
Man. The colors are driving me crazy. Since I changed the hyperlink color, I can't get satisfied with any arrangemnent. Still working (sorry for those looking right now.) Thanks again.

Hi Ray,

When you click a link and go to that page in the /link directory...have you considered using a dropdown box for the links at the bottom instead fo the entire bottom of the page having those red links.

Might be easier and definitely a little cleaner.

Thanks for the idea, Troy. I think I'd rather keep the text links. Notice that they are all keywords and I've found that these highly relative hyperlinks really shoot a site to the top of the SEs. Yeah, I agree. It does look a little sloppy but I don't think the SEs even see the text inside a drop down menu, therefore, I'd rather not use one. I've been very into SE traffic. I've been getting incredible listings with this type of site. Just for kicks, goto www.google.com and enter bermuda hotels (a very highly coveted keyword). You'll see Bermuda Seek near the top. This is my first Zeus robot site. I'm in the top ten of about every major search engine for "Bermuda Anything". Still trying for "Bermuda" by itself. (always learning) www.mythandmystery.com is my 6th Zeus site and I'm looking for a ton of traffic. Hmm.. is there a traffic forum. I should probably put this entry there. Thanks for all the comments. Keep 'em coming.

Ray
