Use of "Include Pages" - 1/19/2002 15:17:46
I have seen a lot of reference to "Include Pages". I would definitely like to utilize this function instead of "shared borders" if I understand the concept correctly. Unfortunately there is a very limited "Help" documentatione for this feature in the "help" file and also with any books I have. I want to create a logo that goes across all of my pages but one. Do I create a "Dummy Page with nothing on it but the Logo that I want use in the position I want to use it and then reference this "dummy" page when I add the "include Page component" on all my other pages. I'm confused. Is there a food explanation somewhere? Thanks

There is an explanation here: http://www.outfront.net/globalelements.htm This thread may also help: http://66.155.126.102/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9887 You are on the right track - sort of. Basically you need to layout your page in tables and then in any cell you wish you can do Insert>Include Page and add which ever include page you wish. It is pretty much essential that the page be laid out in tables. If you are going to use the same includes in a numebr of pages then it is a good idea to lay out the page, add the includes (and any other repeating theings liek logos, titles, navigation and so on) where you want them and then save that page as a template. Then any time you need a new page you can just call up your template, do File>Save As and save it in the new file name. You then have a ready made page with just the page specific content required. There's a tutorial at http://www.sitebuilder.ws that I've referred people to in the past and they have liked it. It's definitely worth learning includes, so don't give up on them. Good luck! ~no_mac_jack Friends don't let friends use Macs.

I can't tell you how much time include pages can save you. Some examples that I use include: includes for ASP code that gets used freqently throughout my pages. I use it for menu bars both vertical and horizontal. I ues it for the nifty little stuff at the bottom of the page, you know like "this page was created by a genious." I highly recommend using them for javascript menus that get reused. I have an asp calener that uses includes heavily and it is a treat to work with. *********************** ASP Rocks! Dave
