Usabliity (sp?) Testing - 1/25/2002 23:17:51
Hi, I'd like to know if anyone can assess http://www.ashlandmass.com I inherited this site and cleaned it up immensely over the past two months, but now I'm at a point where I need direction in the next phase. There's not much content in updates, but that is going to change soon when town workers are allowed access to post. If you can help, I'd appreciate it alot. I had some formal training in FP, but it wasn't in depth, and you'll be able to notice, I've only learned through trial and error, so I appreciate some objective advice. Thanks so much. Paula

Hi, I think this is good for a first attempt! I would change some pages create a more themed look. Some pages looked as though they were on different sites. I am viewing your site at a high resolution, so the home page looked a little empty. Perhaps a graphic or something to fill the empty areas. Although don't go overboard with animated gifs such as the welcome gate I came across. While the occasional animated gif can liven a site when used correctly, most of the time, they look tacky and are annoying. Why not use opening page's navigation menu on the left or top on all pages, so that the user does not feel that they are lost. Hope this is of some help! Mark

Hi, Paula. I agree with Mark that you should have a more consistent look throughout your site. Like he suggested, maybe just having the navbar from the homepage on everypage would be good and you could set it up as an "include page" component to make it easier on you. The graphic on the homepage needs some alt-text. Tony

Thanks so much. I find I am getting confused myself and can't get creative until it is right. I made a few changes today and will work on it some more tonight. I don't know what alt text means, can you elaborate? I'm hoping you guys can look at it again if you have time. Thanks again for everything. Paula
