Testing - 1/25/2002 23:17:51 Hi, I'd like to know if anyone can assess http://www.ashlandmass.com I inherited this site and cleaned it up immensely over the past two months, but now I'm at a point where I need direction in the next phase. There's not much content in updates, but that is going to change soon when town workers are allowed access to post. If you can help, I'd appreciate it alot. I had some formal training in FP, but it wasn't in depth, and you'll be able to notice, I've only learned through trial and error, so I appreciate some objective advice. Thanks so much. Paula

I would change some pages create a more themed look. Some pages looked as though they were on different sites. I am viewing your site at a high resolution, so the home page looked a little empty. Perhaps a graphic or something to fill the empty areas. Although don't go overboard with animated gifs such as the welcome gate I came across. While the occasional animated gif can liven a site when used correctly, most of the time, they look tacky and are annoying. Why not use opening page's navigation menu on the left or top on all pages, so that the user does not feel that they are lost. Hope this is of some help! Mark (in reply to Royal Presence)

I agree with Mark that you should have a more consistent look throughout your site. Like he suggested, maybe just having the navbar from the homepage on everypage would be good and you could set it up as an "include page" component to make it easier on you. I find I am getting confused myself and can't get creative until it is right. I made a few changes today and will work on it some more tonight. I don't know what alt text means, can you elaborate? Testing - 1/26/2002 20:59:12 Paula, Alt-text is the alternate text that appears in place of a graphic if the user has graphics turned off in their browser or if they just can't see the graphic. It is that little yellow box that appears when you mouse over a graphic. Seeing as I work for a non-profit that deals with special education and people with disabilities, I always look for alt-text because blind and visually impaired surfers need it so their screen reader will read something. Alt-text describes the graphic as succinctly, but clearly, as possible. An example of alt-text is when you mouse over the templates and tools box on the left of this screen, a little box pops up that says frontpagecommerce.com telling you where you will go if you click on the picture or graphic box if pictures are turned off. You can place alt-text on a graphic by right clicking it and then going to picture properties. There are options for alternate representation and you add your text there.
