Feedback and critique are greatly welcome!

I am aware of three problems on this site:

1. The visitor counter is always at "1".
2. The guestbook - a visitor cannot submit or sign the guestbook.
3. The site is not password protected. My host uses a Linux server.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS - PLEASE SHARE.

? What does it being a Linux server have to do with it?

Spooky Login only works with NT server. I thought I ask if anyone knows of a password protect software that works with a Linux server or if there is anything else I can do to password protect the site.

If your site is on a server with FP extensions you can password protect it with FP.

You need to open it live to do that - there are instructions here: http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/fp_techniques/subwebs.htm

If you do not have extensions you can protect it using .htaccess. Quite often hosts will have a simple way for you to do this from your sites control panel. Have a look at their support pages for more information.

I looked at your site with interest because I have the "dubious" honor of keeping a very large family site going and current. I can see you have put a lot of time in on this and you have some really great ideas.

A couple of comments. It took a full 60 seconds to load on my fast DSL connection. If you have relatives not computer literate they probably also might have slow connections.

I went through the wedding site. (The party looked like a lot of fun ).

My suggestion would be to work on the navigation. I found it confusing. I couldn't be really sure where each button was going to take me. I gave up on using FP’s navigation for hyperlink buttons because it doesn't give me the flexibility I need for good clear navigation. In fact, on the site redo I am working on now I am not using the built-in navigation at all.

Curious. Are you passwording because of the family stuff?

Since I also have extensive genealogy on my site I am always interested in how others show it. Could not get a link to work on your family trees.

Others here are far more experienced then I am so you should get some good suggestions.

Paula
