Netscape (ugh) - 2/3/2002 1:34:46
http://www.ashlandmass.com

I got into trouble when I decided to use some free software. Although really neat- and helpful to someone untrained, I painstakingly put this on a FP 2000 with some 2002 features web site. Most people who are going to be using it like it. Yet, there's the Netscape contingency which I ignored. However, I tried going to some sites which gave some alternate coding and I used that for a bit, but it only hid some shading. Any ideas? I posted or rather a guy who works on our Intranet with me, asked to the MS Front Page Newsgroup and got some instructions I couldn't understand.

HELP- I used Selteco- and it is terrific to use and shows well, fast and simple. Problem is - I tried to make compatible with Netscape and couldn't. I'm just too naive about Netscape to really care, but a wee minority of viewers are unhappy. What to do? I can't learn coding. Soon, we will have content on the site by departments and the town really likes the drop down menu as a header/shared top border.

Any ideas that a non-coder can learn?

Thanks

Paula

It can be fun using 'tricks' that provide dynamic content, like drop down menu's but without knowing what % of the population for your site may use NN, its best to stay away.

Generally the quoted %age is low, but you may for some unknown reason have a higher population that uses NN.

With FP, you can set the compatibility settings to disallow any non NN coding.
In your case,it becomes a usability thing as you rely on non NN stuff for navigation.

Hi Paula,

You could use a dynamic menu that is compatible like http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/topmen4/index.htm

Pretty simple to install...

That's just about the worst advice ever posted here!
Most people get very upset if you try to tell them which browser they should use and almost ZERO are willing to download a new browser just to see one web site.

I think Troy has the best idea -- just use one of those drop down navigation systems that is compatible...you can do it - can't be too hard.

I guess I'm just intimidated by all the terms that I don't know. I WILL try again.
Thanks for your support.

Why does there have to be different browsers anyway? Just kidding...... I will learn, I will learn.....

I tried dynamic drive, which looked alot like the Selteco Menu Maker, but it created an error and wouldn't load upon an attempted opening.

Thanks though- I'll keep trying. On MS Front Page newsgroup, I got alot of coding type answers, and at present can't even find the html they're talking about. Maybe this isn't for me. Ugh!
