zjfoster -> Question on templates (2/4/2002 13:25:06)

My biggest problem with creating a site with frontpage is how do create the theme for the site. I know there are alot of templates on the web, but I would like to make my own. Can someone suggest the best way to get started making the theme for my page. By theme, I mean the overall appearance of the site minus content and pictures. Also, what is the best way to make link buttons? How do you guys make the link buttons light up when the mouse moves over them? I am using Frontpage 2002. Sorry, I'm so ignorant at this. Thanks

Hello zjfoster,
As for creating a theme, I personally would use Sytle Sheets here is the Outfront tutorial on the subject...
http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/advanced_techniques/css1.htm

As for the mouseover effects, I like to use the DHTML efffects built into front page. If you go to view>toolbars select the DHTML Effects option. Using in is pretty self explanitory.

Hope this helps!

Check out www.paulsfrontpagethemes.com for some great info on creating themes. You'll need an image program to create your graphics, then modify a theme within FP - usually "blank", but you can modify and rename any theme.

A template is normally a page or site that has the layout already set up -- almost always with tables. Sometimes a template will use a theme, sometimes it will use external style sheets (CSS).

If you are using a theme, don't check the box that says "apply with css". It will only cause you problems.

--- if I've confused you, please let me know and we'll try again.
