At least I hope I'm done.

If you wondered into the site last night or this morning, I've loaded twice as many samples on the "Samples" page this afternoon. Anyhoo, everything seems to be working fine; it's a simple site and I don't think I could have goofed it up to bad.

If you see something's not working right please drop me a note here.

Thanks!

Hey Bill-Good site. I know exactly what you do by reading the first page. Not just what you do but how (no synthese). Nice. I can't actually listen to the tunes right now but I did hear the "personal greeting" on my laptop. Sounded good. You could (if you wanted) do a bit more with your meta tags. There are a few keywords you haven't used and such. "background music, voice overs, music files" are just a few you could throw in there. Some people would be typing those phrases at the SEs. Great site. I'll go back and listen when I can.

Bill,
Great samples but how come each time I listen to a sample I lose the web site? Is it because I don't have the right ActiveX viewer? Same thing happened on the personal greeting.

Hmm, you must have scripting turned off in your security options. That'll hang up newer versions of IE a good deal of the time. It works fine as long as you only have one browser window open. Try just keeping the OutFront window up and manually type swoopie.com in the address window and I don't think you'd have any problems. I don't know why but only the new versions of IE I do that. I'll put up a notice warning people about having scripting turned off. I reckon that's all I can do.

Thanks for your input guys.

BTW, I'm not expecting to make any money to speak of with this site really. It was just an excuse to design a site and show a bit more of what I have to offer prospective clients and employers. (I'm kinda in the market for a second job in the evenings doing some kind of computer work.)

HI Bill,
IE5.5. Security set to medium. Unsigned ActiveX controls will not be loaded. It asks me to download an ActiveX control. This is not my strong point area but I'm thinking it might be the unsigned ActiveX control setting. I think a lot of folks probably use this setting on ActiveX controls. If this is the problem they won't be able to get into the samples. btw, the personal greeting is really good.

Is anyone else having a problem with this or is there something else I need to look at? This is the first time I've run into this.

Thanks, Paula

Hmm...now you've got me a little worried.

If anyone else has similiar problems please speak up. I hope it's an IE thing and not the server.

Paula, do you have the same problem with both the MP3 and the WMA files or is it just one type?

Thanks

Hi Bill,
My box configuration has changed a little as of this afternoon but here is what I found earlier and now.

On the MP3 files I would get a new blank window with the message noted above. When I clicked no on the dialog box Quicktime would load and play the sample then the back button would get me back to the site.

<The WMA files open in Windows Media Player but the web site goes completely away.> Forget this one. That only happens when I open the site from within OUtfront. The WMA files work fine when the site is opened from IE.

This afternoon I had to take Quicktime off due to some problems it was giving me. Now on the MP3 files I get the blank screen and the ActiveX message but the file does not play when I click no. Windows Media will not kick in. It’s looking for the ActiveX viewer.

I downloaded one of the MP3 files and it plays fine with Windows Media.

WMA are still the same.

Could be some setting on my machine but might be worth checking out. If anyone has any ideas I’ll be glad to play with my setting and see what happens.

OS is Win2K if that helps. I can fire up a 98 box tomorrow (well, I guess it’s really later today) and check it there if that would be helpful

Paula

Thanks Paula, I hope that's just a qwirk with your settings somehow. This is a new host for me (phpwebhosting) and other than this they've been great and really cheap. Oh well, I'll just hope for the best and put up a help page for downloading that explains things a bit to folks.
