GoDario27 -> FP Server Extensions (2/5/2002 11:09:58)

All forms on my web (www.bfis.com - see "Request Additional Information" link on the home page) return this error:

**

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

**

I have checked on the server and it looks like the extensions are installed and the correct SMTP is setup. (When I used to have the form e-mail the results, I got [Frontpage Component Error}...but I've removed it and just have it going to a text file, now).

Think re-installing the extensions would do it?!

One other thing that *may* or *may not* have anything to do with it...I created the web on another web server we have - and, since I am not able to publish to my web directly because of permissions, I published it to my hard drive, burnt it on cd and then did a copy/paste of the files into my webserver. When I published to my local machine, it warned me that I need to publish to a server with FP extensions for the form to work.

~ Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

"Publish" is the keyword. publish to your hard drive, publish it back to your web server or have someone who has permission do it...copy won't work...

All this to change a number into a name...

Thanks! I re-created the form directly on the web server and it works fine now. Now that I've got my initial site up, I'll be doing the maintenance direcly on the server....once I get the page-load time quicker, I'll be set!

Thanks again!

Wow! Great work! What a great client, too!

But, if I may, I noticed some small things:

1) I experienced some horizontal scroll on the inside frame...

2) The graphic text in the page seems like it might benefit by being set as sharp or no dithering.

That's all. I'd sure like to have a cleint like that... Not bad!!

I tried to take a look but all I got was:
This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them

Thanks, tarheel & Gil! We are in the process of developing a non-frames page and I'm also working on reducing the graphic-size so there's no horizontal scroll (thought I had, initially...but then we added the side-nav frame). Anyhow, thanks much for your suggestions -- they're **always** appreciated! I'll definately be trying the non-dithering thing, too!

Thanks for all your help -- I've incorporated your suggestions -- you rock!

I'm still having the form problems (even after re-installing FP Server Extensions). For the time-being, I've turned them off and simply have e-mail links in their place.

I cannot "publish" to this web from where I stage the web because the "test" web is on our intranet and the "live" web is external...long story...but I think if I can make my workstation a personal web server and then publish from the test web to my workstation and then to the live web, it may work...

No success as of yet, though...

Thanks again for your suggestions!

Got Windoze 2000. 2K (professional) can run IIS. That gives you a place to stage the web internally. It's not such a wacky setup, think of the scenario if you are dealing with a bunch of rookies who actually access the "real" website. Plus they get to goof around with everything and can't break... it.....
