HELP: Server Extension Issues! - 2/5/2002 12:24:59
I built a web site for a Northwest timber investment company (tree farms) and the IT guy is having issues with getting the FrontPage server extensions to work on their local server machine. Here's how the system works: 1) They host their site on their computers (no hosting company to (publish) the site to) 2) No changes to the site are made from outside the company. When changes need to be made, I go downtown and do it. 3) All changes are made on a "work in progress" web -> then copied over to the "live" web to go live to the outside world. 4) The forms DO NOT WORK. They also have the following annoying text message: [FrontPage Save Results Component] http://www.campbellgroup.com/contact/form.htm http://www.campbellgroup.com/timber_research/reports.htm Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Matt

The extensions are either not installed or installed incorrectly Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our Specialty Find a Web Professional

Hi: To get rid of that annoying [FRONTPAGE SAVE RESULTS COMPONENT] message go into the HTML of the page and delete <strong>Frontpage save results component</strong> Regards,

That won't make the form work and that code will be dynamically written any time the submit button is clicked. Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our Specialty Find a Web Professional

Gil is quite correct. There is a "small" problem with the extensions, the IT guy may have to remove them and reinstall to get them working. quote: 3) All changes are made on a "work in progress" web -> then copied over to the "live" web to go live to the outside world.
How is the page "copied" to the actual web? is it published, FTP'd, drag and drop??? This could be contributing to the problem, especially if it's FTP. I think, therefore I am, I think.

You need to uninstall extensions and then reinstall. And try to get in the habit of working off the live server rather than doing your changes and then publishing. I agree with the above comments; your problem may be that you are killing your extensions by FTPing your content over and over. You cannot FTP to a FP site with extensions installed or your extensions will crash and the extensions-dependent functions on your site will not work. And forms built with FP are most definitely extensions dependent. Hey Everyone! Thanks for the expertise. ;-) The IT manager has been FTPing and copying over the "work" web to the "live" web when changes are made. But the extensions never have worked from the beginning. That's may be way his doing it this way. How do we start over and re-install extensions??? Matt, What kind of server are you on? Windows-based or Apache/Linux or what? The processes are different for each setup. Phil Phil "If God is not a Tar Heel, then why are hyperlinks default-colored Carolina blue?" http://www.1awebhosting.com 1A Web Hosting for Frontpage.
