my school website - 2/6/2002 15:02:25
Please check out the following website: www.portville.wnyric.org. It is a product of a web class that I teach. I try to get my students to do as much as possible (the art department). The site uses frames for navigation. I'd like some opinions on frames with any reasonable alternatives. Some things are not complete yet, but we're getting there. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Tim Houseknecht Portville Central School Portville, NY

Well, I tried a link and got this: This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our Specialty Find a Web Professional

Hi Tim, I think Gil doesn't like frame pages, but then nobody does. It seems to me that it's a good way to pull together all these different web sites, the problem is you need to have a "no frames" version and that defeats the purpose of using frames. You could use SSI. Your site looks good, but it is a little confusing, there is a lot of information there. I wouldn't use the paw print background, that might make it a little less busy looking. Other than that I don't have any good suggestions. Obviously a lot of work went into that site. Thanks for sharing it with us. Paula The more I learn the less I seem to know.

No offense tim_h but if you are teaching a web class, usability and accesibility would be a good topic to cover early in the course. It seems that most schools that are teaching web design only cover what the students want to know instead of what they need to know.

Hi, I'm not at all technical, but I know frames are discouraged from the viewpoint of the Disability Act. I took a quick look and it's very creative, I like the header. Went to the HS page first and got scared, it was visually too confusing (I've done that alot) Your site just needs less is more. Actually I'll take my own advice and do some house cleaning on my own site.
