Ok, I've got my registration (name,state,password,username..etc.) form all typed out. My server offers me 25MB of MS SQL 2000 DATABASE. I want to store this information somewhere ( a database ).I've read through the tutorials but still don't understand how to do this. So, I go to my form properties, click the send to button and then the options and choose the database connection I want to use. If I need to I can create a database by clicking that button and FP will automatically create one for me. But, will it hold enough information? What if I wanted to use an Access database? What is SQL 2000 Database, and should I use it? Thanks.

My hosts is http://www.cihost.com So, your saying an SQL database is just more soffisticated than an Access database?

Theres various reasons for using SQL. Mainly its designed for the internet environment, whereas Access is designed for a file based environment. Both are good, you may find access a little faster with fewer users, but all and all, SQL server is a more reliable option. Maintenance is done online, whereas access you must download and youll get some concurrency issues. So, then next questions is, what do I need to do to my form (registration) so that it sends that information to the SQL database. And, so this is a good place to store user information? Can I create a button on my sign in screen so that they may edit their personal information or a button that will send them their password if they've forgotten it? Then my next question after I understand all of that is how will the information be displayed onscreen. In otherwords, what if I hit the link that says "edit my personal info." How does the link know where to go to get that info, and when it does retrieve it, and gets back to my browser, where does it go? Do I need to create a page for the info. to display on? Sorry about all of the questions, but I think once I understand these things, I'll have a better idea of whats going on.

O.K. I bought your SpookyLogin. I downloaded it and unzipped the file. I then copied the files under C:/my docs/my webs/name of my web I then published my web. I tried to access http://mysite.com/admin_main.asp but I just get a "Page cannot be found error." I also don't understand what I'm suppose to do to connect databases or whatever it is the second step in the readme.txt file says to do. I'm learning all of this for the first time..I need very detailed instructions!! Thanks

In the readme.txt, youll also find a link to more information on the frontpagecommerce site (a word file) that goes into the process in a bit more detail. Grab a copy of that too. O.k. I've got my site up and the registration and sign in pages come up. But when I type in information and hit submit...it just takes me to a "no page found" page. if you want to see what I mean...http://www.bookjoint.com Once I hit submit what should be my next screen?

To add to my previous post. in my admin_main.asp screen it says my database is read only and then it gives directions on how to fix it. Every time I go into file> openweb> http://mysitename.com, my computer instantly freezes up? Same thing if I'm live on my site and click file > openwithFrontPage, it freezes up. Problem with FP? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

I did a repair on Frontpage...didn't help any, still does the same thing. I can publish my web, I just cannont go into File > Open Web > http://mysite.com Also I was wondering, I bought your spooky_login. I thought I had the option to create a link for users to get their password if they couldn't remember it...how do I set it up? Followed the directions...but no link shows up?

OK, I got that to work. Now, I can't seem to get it to actually email me the password. In the Admin_menu.asp for "Email Server" I put in "mail.mydomain.com" anything else I need to do?

You need : A registered email component A domain bsed email address A correct SMTP server address. Did you get mail.mydomain.com from your host? You cant just make it up and hope for the best :) §þððk¥ Database / DRW Q & A VP-ASP Shopping cart Spooky Login

Got all of that Spooky, still doesn't send me an email with my password. I checked everything over, seems to be fine. I contacted my host and they said everything should be working fine. Another question since I've got you here, Ok, the purpose of the login is to protect pages underneath it right? So that users cannot access them without having a username and password. But if I know the name of the page, all I have to do is type it in above and it will take me right to it. Anyway to make it so that if anyone does that it automatically takes them to the login screen? Thanks!!

Thats where the protection script needs to be added to othe top of each asp page. It only will protect those specific pages, not those under it. The page could be anywhere, but it must be asp, and it must check the user. §þððk¥ Database / DRW Q & A VP-ASP Shopping cart Spooky Login
