Question for Webdesigners - 2/7/2002 1:59:05
What is the best way to design a web page template? I read somewhere that website design should start in your graphics program such as Photoshop or Paintshop, and after you design the site in this program, trasfer it to Frontpage. I'd like to hear from some of the experienced webmasters. Do you often create the design for your site in a program like photoshop, or do you start at Frontpage?

Hi

I don't know if it's just a case of personal preference but I would always set up a template in a graphics program and when I'm happy with the look set up the table structure in my HTML editor and take it from there.

Seems the logical way to me, as you don't have to mess around with splitting/merging cells and changing all the smaller elements if things don't look right.

Cheers
Andy

I always start in a graphics program. My first layer is also aways a grid, which I then turn invisible. Keeps blocking, and thus table design, easy.

That is a great question zjfoster -- Bri, when you say your first layer is always a grid, what exactly do you mean? In PSP7, I can do a View/Grid, but it's a really light grid & I can't change the size of it or make it invisible (I can turn it 'off' 'tho)...do you make your own grid & if so how?

Cool! I never noticed that!! So what do you set your grid properties to Bri to make your image easy to use later in a table?
