Password Registration on Microsoft Servers - 2/10/2002 15:41:29
I created a 'User Registration' page from an FP template and it opened with the following comment:

"NOTE - For security reasons, some web servers do not allow self-registration.... Self registration...is not allowed on Microsoft web servers that use Windows 2000 or Windows NT accounts to establish web permissions."

I've seen similar comments elsewhere. Does this mean Microsoft servers may not allow password registration & log-in, or does 'self-registration' have a different meaning here?

Am I better off with Unix if I have a password site?

isn't that something about the allow anonymous stuff? 2 settings in IIS, sorry not at server for this...http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q185377&LN=EN-US&SD=tech&FR=0&qry=allow%20anonymous&rnk=2&src=DHCS_MSPSS_tech_SRCH&SPR=IIS50 Read this with your thinking cap on, it's MS gobbldygook.

All this to change a number into a name...
