pdf Printing/ Security Problems - 2/11/2002 23:23:06
I can download a .pdf file and view it in a Acrobat Reader but it will not let me print it. It has some security feature that will not let me save it in another form, print it, or copy and paste it. I need some help PLEASE.....they are practice tests and it is hard for me to stare at the computer long enough to take them. I am at a stand still. Thanks for your help!!!!!

If the creator of the PDF created it with any of the security features that are part of Adobe Acrobat (full verison of software) you are correct that you can't print it, can't edit it, can't copy it and can't modify data such as annotations and form fields. That's one of the reasons that folks use the full version of Adobe ( and not just use the reader). I use it to protect my original douments that I own the copyright to or authorize for publication. Adobe uses three types of security: passwords, watermarks, and signatures. There are five levels of protections in passwords: open/print/changing the document/selecting text and graphics/ and adding or changing annotations and form fields. If any of these are turned on you cannot open or view the document/ print the PDF document / change the document/ select any text to copy or paste to the clipboard/ or make any changes.
I am sure that there is a hacker or someone who could by-pass the Adobe security but I don't know how.
