need help! - 2/15/2002 17:06:31
I have a question regarding Paint shop pro. I want to design my page template in paint shop and trasfer it to frontpage to add the text, links, pictures, etc. I was wondering how to do this. Do I treat the template I design in Paintshop as a background picture in frontpage? Or do I slice the whole template up in Paint shop and then trasfer it? I've done the latter, but how can I add text? If any of you guys design using paint shop or other graphic programs, can you help me out?

you are on the right track. What I do is this. I make my template graphic, using layers if I want to make rollovers. then with the rollovers showing, I flatten the image, or merge all of the layers that are showing. Then I save the file with one name, in .jpg format. then I go to export, Image Slicer. I then add all of my slices. then save the settings, then save the file. It writes the html file and saves all of the slices.

Then I go back into PSP and undo the flatten or merge, turn off the rollovers so that only the normal buttons are showing. Then flatten or merge again, save the image under a new name in .jpg format and again go into Image Slicer. Load the settings you saved before and then again save the file as a new html file and it saves all of the slices as new names. Go back into PSP and browse to the folder you saved all of these images to. Look for the ones that represent your rollover images. Go into Image Slicer again, load settings and now you can make your rollover effects, etc.

Of course if you do not want to make rollovers, just do not perform the last few steps.

So how do you add the text to your site? I mean, if you slice the images up in jpeg or save it in html the page is nothing but a bunch of pictures, right? When you open this design in Frontpage do you type your text over the pictures?

Look at this page here..... LHS graphics & top graphics bar.
This is where tables come into play.
Set up your table , possibly 2 columns and a top bar, only put your graphics into the top & lhs cells. Imagine this bit you are reading now is another cell....it is left as is with no graphics inserted ( only html text).

Slice your image to suit your table layout.
Print it out and get out your pencil and imagine where you want text etc (this area will not be pasted as an image) Like all the white space ( or whatever colour is your background) in this section here.( It is discarded and left free for typing in.

Go to any graphical website get into VIEW>SOURCE and copy all of the code and paste it into a new page in a frontpage web( html view), then have a look at the tables etc in Normal view.

Set up a table with x cells and start fitting your slices jigsaw into the cells where you want them....add more cells to suit and I'm sure it will just "click".
