PWS Issue - 2/16/2002 16:37:41
Recently when opening various webs on my computer I get the following error: Server error: You cannot open a web at, or create a subweb beneath, the URL "/Inlandboating", because it is an alias. Use the full URL instead. Sometime it is preventing me from saving files as well. I have not done anything different that I can recall. Please help this is most annoying. Thanks!

I think where you have sent me is in the right direction, but I still can't get the issue resolved. When trying to follow the instructions on the posting, I can't change to a folder / rename and covert back to a folder. When I open the web it doesn't allow you to click on the root folder of in the folder window to do this. The example must be for subwebs. Here is another "clue" to my problem. On my default page (within the web I am having a problem) I have a background image. The other pages in the web have been set to "get page colors and background images from another page" with the default page selected. The trouble is all pages but the default in this web are going outside of the web to the wwwroot folder and picking up the background file I have for default page in that web! Any further advice will be appreciated!

RE: PWS Issue - 6/22/2005 18:16:43
I ran into this as well (using MS Visual Development Environment 6.0 - Visual InterDev 6.0 (SP5) - Visual J++ 6.0 - very old stuff but some of my employer's legacy projects are still around and need mending from time to time). I have my machine set up as the (intranet) web server, upon which I develop ASP web apps. I use the same directory for both the Master host and the Local host instances of my projects. VI doesn't really like or expect me to do it, but I prefer this mode of development. IIS (Internet Information Service) has a default website, the home directory for which is my webprojects source directory. As a result, this home directory included not only my individual projects, but also Microsoft's web extension and web definitions directories (the names of the latter two categories begin with an underscore and some are even hidden). I encountered the message you described, and decided to remove (relocate) thedefault website's web extension and web definition directories. It seems dangerous, but this allows me to create, debug, and locally browse my ASP/J++ web applications.
