Site Redesign - 2/20/2002 12:32:37
Okay... I need your help. I recently redesigned our site at www.southbendonline.com but being a perfectionist, I am just not happy with it. I like the template, but the page seems to be missing something. I will be adding more food pictures to the restaurant pages as soon as I can find some. (If you know where I can get some good food graphics, preferable on transparant backgrounds, please let me know!)

Thanks for the critique!
Gil

I only had time to look at the home page (will try again later), but the left menu looks strange (to me) with the white space to the left of it, I think it would look better left aligned to the page edge.

I don't see that Gil. What I see is a black column to the page edge, with the site menu, center aligned in white text. Are you saying you see a white edge to the left of the black column? :(

Yep - about 75 - 100 px of white space from the left page edge to the black column. BTW, I'm using 1280 X 1024, browser window open to aprox half a 19" monitor...

I liked it fine Jackie - sometimes after you stare at your own work for so long, you start getting overly critical it seems.

I did get to wondering why is the main pic in the center homepage of that lady snapping her fingers? I'd prefer to see one of the South Bend area's points of interest (great pic of University of Notre Dame; or the College Football Hall of Fame; etc - show me some of the stuff so I'll want to come there!)

Also - here's a few food pics on transparent backgrounds if you'd like them!

Well that didn't work Jackie - you can go to http://www.afbisinc.com/testms/images.htm

& right-click any of the images to copy them to your desktop if you want. -M

p.s. I also see the white edge to the left of the menu, I'm using 800x600 full screen.

I am Jackie's partner in this business and i made some corrections to the alignment of the left and right tables. This took away the appearance of white below the overlay. I am viewing this on a screen with 800X600 resolution, so can you others with different resolutions check your screens to see if this corrected the situataion?

Thanks

Looks fine at 800x600 but if I increase it to 1280x1024, I get the same thing Richard sees. Using a 17 inch monitor.

1024 X 768 still looks like the picture above on Win98.

I'm seeing the same as Richard at 1024 x 768 and worse the Golf Courses page has a very messed up header, with a white band on both sides.

I think, therefore I am, I think.

Seesh...I told you guys I needed your help!!!! :)

I'm gonna take a look at the white band problem and see what is going on there. I am clueless as to WHY it is doing that. So thank you for your input!

Also, thanks for the graphics link and for the other suggestion about changing the main page graphic. Multiple pairs of eyes are much better than one!!!

Well, since everyone is pointing out what is wrong, I guess Ill tell you how to fix it... he he

Line 100 in your html looks like this:
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="786" style="border-collapse: collapse">

Change it to this:
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%" style="border-collapse: collapse">

and all will be better...

See ya

Hi Jackie,
I think Troy hit it on the white.

My suggestion sounds a little picky and it might just be me but the center align on the menu bothers me a little. Have you tried it at left align. I think the eye follows it better.
