If I set up a box or cell with text in it, how do I make the edges curved? Is this possible in Frontpage? What is the easiest way to do this? Not only boxes, but buttons too.

You need an image editor outwith FP to draw a rounded rectangle (Shape tool) for the button.

The curved edges of cells are really background images for the cells.

Here is a link explaining the concept somewhat. Taken from a previous post. you might do a search ^^ up there as I'm sure there is more info available within these forums.

zj, I tried some of the "tricks" to making rounded edges, but I happened on Adobe Photoshop Elements a few weeks ago and I love it. It's easy to use and the results are instant. (BTW I don't work for Adobe) Shading, curved boxes, all kinds of stuff to make your banners and other graphics and text look great. I would like to know what other kinds of graphics software Outfront people are using.

The graphics program I use is Paint Shop Pro. I'm still new to it though. Still trying to learn the tricks. I know I can make a rounded rectangle. Should I cut off the top part of the rectangle and save as a gif file and insert this picture at the top of my cell? Would that be the best way to achieve this?

One other way is to borrow a rounded corner graphic and using your "wand" modify it to your desired colours, then flip, mirror & save in the 3 other angles for your matching 4 corners

I can't believe no one has mentioned Fireworks in this thread. Absolutely the best web graphics program out there. Photoshop is good, but some thing are easier with Fireworks, and making boxes with round corners is one of them.

Open the "Tools" bar, and click and hold on the "Rectangle Tool", and you'll see more choices in a drop-down list. Click on the "Round Rectangle Tool" and drag shapes into existence to your hearts content. Adjust the dgree of roundness with the "Object" pallette (Alt-F2). Fill, bevel, etc. Buttons can also be made this way. Much easier than in Photoshop.

Dear Tarheel:

FW is good, but you forgot to mention that in FW 3 no round corners. It came up until FW4, before that you had to start in Freehand.

Been trying to do this myself recently.

Once made, any hints about placing a rounded-corner box (graphic) in a cell or table as a background? I've tried, and it never comes out right. I make the table the same size as the gaphic but, in all cases, part of the graphic is cut off.

Also, I've seem some rounded edged boxes with the just the corners inserted into a table (ie. the corners are pieces). What's the difference and rationale behind this option?

Tables are a nice topic, we could discuss for hours.
The problem is that normally even if you tell them to do something, they can do a different thing, I.E. you tell them to be 400 pixels width, but they end up 500 width. How can this happens? because there is a 500 width graphic in the table,.

The best way is to make either the first or the last line of your table what I call a marker. It's basically a line with the exact widths I need, then I insert a 1X1 transparent gif; and edit it on the IMG tag to have the exact width I indicated the cell (or column) to be. That way the column has the exact width.
The height has not proven to be a problem yet.
Once I make the basic layout of the page (i.e. one right 150 pixel, one center 460 and one left 150 pixel) I insert more tables, like the one with rounded corners
and voila, the graphic is 100% acurate.

hope this helps.

Vampmaster,

What type of line? Create one in a draw or photo program then insert it? Or insert one of FrontPage's horizontal lines and set the pixel width? I'm going to try this...but I may be back because I"m not entirely sure what you mean.

I'm finding out about how tempramental FP is with tables, particularly pages where you place and replace text frequently. Sometimes those darn little cursors have a mind of their own where they end up. Quite frustating to say the least.

The Vampmaster -> RE: How do I make rounded edges? (3/9/2002 22:57:24)

Sorry for the delay gail. I normally only check this on the weekends.

The story is as follows, in a table I like to divide the cells in lines and columns. Whan I ment is that the first row of cells, should be done accordingly to your table but whith a 1X1 clear pixel graphic modified.

Lets asume you want a first table of lets say 760 width with one column of 150 pixels, one column of 460 and a last column of 150 pixels.

you ask FP to draw a table of 760 pixels three columns and at least two rows.

then you go and select the first column, of cells, (both of them at the same time) and select them to be 150 pixels width. You select the middle ones, (again both at the same time) and select them to be 460 width. Finally you select the last two cells in the right column (did I mention both at the same time?) and select them to be 150 pixel width.

Now you have the basic layout for a page with left and right tabs and a center one, but as everybody knows these numbers are not yet completely fixed, so you create a 1X1 gif graphic where the only pixel is a transparent one, and go to the first cell in the first column, there you insert the graphic, and modify it to be 150 pixels width by 1 pixel height. Do the same in the first row cell but middle column and modify it to be 460 pixel widht by 1 pixel height. Finally you do the proper with the first row cell right column.
If you did it right, it appears now that you only have one row left. As a matter of fact what you just did was setup a clear layout, now you can insert more tables into those cells, or insert more rows by going to the last cell and pressing tab.
Hope this helped a bit.

Point well taken. You mean some people are still using FW 3?

I'll tell you how I make rounded or oval corners with FP. I use Image Composer.
Go to Shapes - make a circle or rectangle in color cell is going to be. Make a rectangle in color page is. Put the circle on top of rectangle and stretch to whatever angle you want it to be. Also width and height. Go to tools - click on arrange - go to funny tool on the fartherest right top side and cut to size. You can flip it to make right - left etc. I found this to be very easy. You then save it as an image file and insert into cell.

For Image Composer it's explained very simply here http://www.pioneeris.net/ashton/IC/rounding.htm
