School Site - 2/23/2002 15:59:49
I've been designing our schools web site and have tried to follow a lot of the advice I have found in this forum. I would just like some advice and feedback as to how the site looks.

I've tried to make the navigation easy. You can reach virtually any page from any page within 2 clicks.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi!
I just looked at your site and liked the design and layout...
Easy to use, informative and a good place to build from...

I do have one observation... that I hope won't bother you.

The darkness of the Black kinda shocked me!
I wouldn't want to use the word, funeral, but.....
It didn't seem very upbeat for young people.
What about school colors, Do you folks have any?
All in all, Your doing great, keep up the good work for those young people.

Best wishes, Robert

Wow, I think it's great. I don't know what Robert meant about the black. I don't usually like purple, but that looks really good. I didn't see anything I'd change. Maybe somebody else will see something. You did a great job with it, it's easy to use and provides a lot of information. Really nice. Congratulations!

I'm looking at the site, using win 98 and IE,5.5...
And the backgroung looks pitch black, something you may want to check out.
Maybe some of the other members using the same setup as I am can take a look and give you some more info...

Regards, Robert

I'm not sure why you see black as the background color. I too have Win 98 and IE 5.5. The background color is supposed to be a variation of purple. The hexcode is 63546B. Our school colors are purple and white. I am not really very fond of purple colored websites as they seem "gaudy". That is why I chose this version of purple as it is more subdued.

If anyone knows why it appears black for some people, please let me know how I can fix it. Thanks.

Holy socks...
I just called some people from the office to take a look, I said what color is that, they responded, purple! I said yer kiddin' me!
So, I popped up my eyedropper and took a sample... it's purple...
I'll be making an appointment for an eye exam. next week.
It looks pitch black to me... now I'm scared.
I learned something even if you didn't., sorry for the bother,
Disregard my post...

Regards, Robert

Much better than most of the school web sites I have looked at. I didn't look too deep, but what I think would make a world of difference is a change of font. Looks like arial would be good for this site, but it's an opinion only. Pictures are a bit dark for me too, but like I said this is much better than 90% of the school sites I've looked at.

Leather, check out this hex code and see what you think of it?

May be to gaudy, but no harm in looking...

leatherlips,

The site is looking good, a whole lot better than when you first started! I trust the site will be helpful to those in your community.

Personally, and as mentioned above, I prefer a sans-serif font such as Verdana or Arial because they are easier to read on a monitor. And I think you could use a few more pictures scattered throughout the site.

Good job.

Robert, I suspect your monitor is either going out or needs to be adjusted.

Is there a way to change the font on all of the pages at one time or will I have to do them all one at a time? Thanks.

Just apply a theme. Use any theme to start with and customize it to your liking and then apply.

You'll want to make sure to uncheck background, vivid colors and such, select the font type for all the different font sizes, etc.. It's pretty easy, but look through all the options to make sure it's not going to do something you don't like. Save the theme as a different name. If it doesn't look so good after you apply you can always select no theme again.

Someone may give you a better answer, but that's the way I always do it.

I would encourage you to look into CSS for formatting your text. Katherine wrote a good set of articles on it. Look under the Tutorials link at the top of the page. Use a linked style sheet.

It's not an overnight fix, but well worth the effort of looking into, especially if you plan to do more web design in the future.
