website design - Paintshop - 2/25/2002 1:35:44
I tried to design the whole web page in my graphics program, Paint Shop Pro. I was going to slice the page up and send it to Frontpage. How do I do this? I mean, I know how to slice a page but what if some of the contents on the page I want to keep in jpeg and some in gif? I wanted to keep the solid color in gif, but my picture is a cutout so if I slice around it I will get some of the solid color background in it. So when I compress the pic as a jpeg, the quality of that solid color is blurry. Am I making sense? If so, can someone give advice on this?

Hmmm, don't know if you should design the "whole" page in PSP. Maybe the top and side borders, if you want a curved and continuous feel to it. Then, of course, you'd only use a top and side cell of a table to place these in. This is where the slicing comes into play. You are correct that saving parts as .jpg and parts as .gif will cause potential mismatches in colors. But consider the following as well: 1. Making the entire page from a sliced image will most likely lead to a VERY large overall file size (eg. very slow download times) 2. If you use an image for all your text don't expect a search engine to rank you very high. They need to be able to read copy, and they can't copy if it's an image. 3. Don't expect to update the page, at least not easily. You'd need to create a new image and make it fit into the existing puzzle in order to update. I'd advise looking a bit more into how other sites you like are built. Using IE 5 or above you can click File>Save As and the page, along with a folder for the images, will be saved to your hard drive. You can then open it in FP and clearly see the table layouts, images, etc. You can even piece those images back together in PSP to see how they began life. Good luck! <--Your information went data way -->

haven't you head of layers? Paint shop pro does support layers doesn't it? Programming today, is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better 'idiot-proof' programs, and the Universe, trying to produce bigger and better idiots....So far, the Universe seems to be winning.
