Opening Navigation Bar Links In New Window - 2/25/2002 15:44:43
I know how to open a regular html link in a new window using target = "", but is there a way to edit the properties on an Navigation Bar External link? I have looked but have not found the code created for the Nav Bar. Any help would be appreciated.

These things are close to what I want. I don't have a problem with knowing what code I need to use to open a window in a new page. I have a web that has a template/theme and I am using the navigation properties. One of the pages I have in my navigation structure is a link to an external page, and is not a page in my web but shows up in my navigation bars. I want to know where the code for the navigation bars is generated so I can edit it and have my external link open up in a new page. Make sense????

Hi zaskar Why do you think the method in Spooky's link above is not what you want. Have you tried it out? That method will work for any page with an URL, internal or external pages. William Lee

Again I will state that I KNOW HOW TO OPEN A PAGE IN ANOTHER WINDOW. What I am asking is where is the code for the navigation bars. The external link that I'm am trying to open is included in a navigation bar. I can't apply any code to open the link in a new window if I can't find the oringal href command in the first place. I just need to know where the code is that is created when you apply the site navigation. I've looked through all the files created in my web and cannot find the code for this link. When I can will have no problems editing it and opening the page how I want.

May I suggest using includes for navbar rather than FP Navbars? PS, I dont quite know where that code is either. Some of FP's little tricks are scripts... All this to change a number into a name...

First read the link that Spooky posted. Then follow Thomas suggestion to put in the URL box of the External Link a javascript funciton instead of the URL of the external page. Did you try this? William Lee

This is what Thomas posted on another thread quote: You can put a javascript function call in the url box when you put an external hyperlink in your FP navigation. Use a script for opening a popup window. Then rename the icon. Remember that the function has to be on every page for this to work properly, however. Here's the scripting for opening a window. http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/faq.htm#popup t

Thanks for the suggestions guys. There is a lot of good stuff on this forum. This is how I ended up solving my problem. The code for the Nav bars is in the html code, it just doesn't show up when using frontpage. I opened the htm file in Notepad and was able to change the code to open in a new window. The only problem is that I had to edit this code for eachh page in the web, and if you make changes in Frontpage it overwrites the code I changed, so then I would have to modify it outside of FP again. I am exploring all of the options presented to me here currently. Thanks again....
