ZoneAlarm users please help - 2/25/2002 17:33:27
Wasn't sure where to post this so I'll try here.

I ask a friend to check out some pages on a test subweb for me. She has ZoneAlarm on her computer. Couldn't get to the site unless she truned ZoneAlarm off. She said there are also other sites she can't get to.

Since I haven't used ZoneAlarm my question is: are there certain triggers I need to be careful of so that everyone can enter the site?

Thanks,
Paula

I use the non-commercial version of it. I also use the default settings, which are "Medium" local and "High" Internet. (Has to do with what goes out and what comes in to your box.) I don't know that I've ever had any problems with it like that. I just got digital cable though and since it's an always on connection I'm gonna start using the "High" local setting for a while and see what happens. Maybe that's what she does too. I'll keep you informed if I notice anything strange.

She also may have the commercial version in which case I'm in the dark about how those are configured.

I used the free version for awhile and have upgraded to the Pro version about a year ago. Both work similar. I don't recall the differences. Anyway, I haven't had any problems accessing any sites. I also have my setting on "High".

Perhaps she has some customized setting that is not allowing things?

If you want, leave the URL and I'll take a quick peek.

Thanks for the answers. She has the non-commercial version.

Would both of you mind taking just a minute to see if you can get in? I'd appreciate it. All the links are not working yet and it is far from complete but wondering if you can get in.

Works great for me. I tried switching back to the Medium setting too and still worked fine. Thing is though, I'm still using the 2.1 version. There's a newer one out now and some people seem to think it has some issues.

Try reading through some of the customer reviews at CNET here:

Everything worked okay for me too. I clicked around to maybe 10+ different pages.

Since she is having difficulties on other sites too it must be something she customized in her settings.

Good for me on the latest pro version.
I dont understand what could have done it, unless there are some custom settings in the advanced internet configuration?

I know that I might be a little late with this reponse, but I have just recently bought and installed ZA Professional. I clicked on the link you gave and have no problem what ever.

Thanks for the additional checks. I appreciate it.

Paula-thanks for the comment on the site. It's a redo of the family site I started over two years ago with photodraw then moved to FrontPage. Then I came to Outfront and learned all this new stuff and how to really use FP so I'm redoing it.

A word to the wise. If you have a family that has computers NEVER start a family site unless you want to keep doing it and doing it and doing it. But it is fun.
