File Upload function problem - 2/26/2002 12:12:57
I am trying to add the "Upload files" feature on my page, and I followed all the directions on Help. It does not work! I created a folder that I named "upload". I right clicked the folder to change the properties... I cannot do the following (the boxed are already dimmed, and I cannot check/uncheck them):
Cancel the selection of the Allow scripts to be run option.
Select Allow anonymous upload to this directory.
Select Allow uploaded files to overwrite existing file names if you want existing files to be overwritten.
I can go in the file properties, but I cannot unclick "allow programs to be run" nor "allow scripts to be run" , all 3 options are unchecked and dimmed.

Yes it does work, I got an Upload working at http://www.gethsemanebpc.com/test/feedback.htm
Sounds like yours could be a permission thing. Check with your host.

I have also set upload to work on an intranet. Do you have the FP2002 SE installed?

Sorry for the delay in answering you, but in order to get this to work properly, you must open the site directly on the server (not a disk copy) and create the directory. Also, your page seems to need to be saved as an .htm page not an .asp page. Hope this helps.

Thank for all your help.
I have Frontpage 2002, and I work directly on the server, not on the disc, and the pages are created on htm files.
Still doesn't work, I even contacted my host server, and they think it might be something wrong with the software.
Any other ideas?

Is your web able to run scripts at all. Some can only consist of static html pages. Do you have any other FP webbots components not working ? Does your host provide you with an anonymous ftp directory, maybe you can use that one instead.

I can run scripts with no problem at all, and the other FP webbots seem towork fine, which surprised me too. I tried to add an anonymous directory from my host, but it is confusing, and apparently, either i did something wrong, or it didn't work.

I have a feeling that the problem comes from my host server, but they say no.

You didn't indicate whether your ISP has the FP 2002 server extensions installed. If they have FP 2000 installed most of the components will work but not the upload feature. From the FP Help file:
To test the functionality of your form, you must first publish your web site to a web server running either the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 or SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft. Ask your web server administrator or Internet Service Provider whether this software is installed.

I have this same feeling.. they usually say no.
I still think it has to do with permissions partly. Do you have anywhere in your hosting plan that allows you to set permissions for individual directory/folder? Maybe they are set from that channel.

I also really thinks it's a permission issue. I cannot set the permissions from the host server I don't think, I just asked them the question, and I should get an answer soon. They are fast to respond usually.
Maybe they can do it for me, I hope.

Thats strange Mike, I checked earlier and it said it is installed , IIS5.0.
Sebastien, can you verify your FPSE by going into your server live and click Tools>Web Settings and look in the General tab that says Server Version.

OK, can you try publishing the web that your upload page is in into a subweb and we see from there. Hope it is not too much work.

Thanks so much for your help, I have reinstalled the extensions yesterday, and when I checked today, i was still in queue for installation, not sure how long it takes for them to reinstall them...

My general experience with some of the built-in functions of FP is that if the wizard or whatever creates the page or site botches on one little step it is better to delete the whole thing and start over! Usually, when you see [Front Page component] displayed on a page it means that the component is broken. Save time to start from scratch....
All this to change a number into a name...

It could be. Then again, sometimes when I query dnswiz.com/fptype.htm I got redirected back to the same page without returning any results... so much for its reliability.

The host server told me that the extensions work for the entire website.
Is that possible that they wouldn't work for a specific folder?

Not unless they are women-haters, thats the name of your upload folder isn't it? ;-)
anyway, I think your best bet is to use the anonymous directory provided by your host. You just need to browse to this directory for your File Upload options.

I emailed my host server, and here is the answer... They do not allow file uploads!!
Does anybody know of a good server that allows anonymous files???

No one can post anything to your account if a user doesn't have your password.
That kind of setting you requite is not provided at A+ Hosting, as such anonymous upload directories are perfect for people to upload and swap illegal files.
