Problem Adding Gif to Web - 2/28/2002 15:45:22
Hello all: I'm really kind of a newbie. My problem is probably so simple to you guys, I'm almost embarassed to ask it. I have been creating Gif's for banner ads in in Corel Draw 9. After I create the graphic, it appears in Corel Draw to be the correct size. I then export it from Corel Draw to create the gif. When I go into Front Page and insert the gif I created, it is always extremely large. I then reduce the size of the Gif by dragging the corner handle. When I get it to the intended size, the quality is terrible, the text is very jagged and pixillated (if that's a word). It looks really bad. How can I solve this problem? Thanks Very Much.

Don't worry about it being a simple question. That is what the forums are for. When you export the gif, it probably is creating it at too high a resolution. Group your graphic and export selected as a tif. Then open it in corel photopaint and change the resolution to 72dpi and export that and you should get a good gif. Hi Shearne In your Corel 9, look for a resize button and save it as a gif in the program. Or once saved put it back into Corel to modify. I'm not a Corel user, but all the programs have similar features (within reason) Actually, did you click on the resample button in FrontP after you dragged the corners? (It pops up at the bottom toolbar when you click on an image in FP) Cheers from the Outback Get your didgeridoos from http://www.didj-territory.com.au

The problem is that I have found draw to be somewhat unpredictable exporting certain types and coreldraw has problems with how it defines certain parts of an image. Because of this, if you then try to do something with it, it sometimes (not always) gives you pretty bad results. However, PhotoPaint can understand the output from draw just fine and, when you resave the item as whatever type you want, be it jpg or gif, it does it correctly. That is why I usually export the item as a tif since Corel managed to get that export right... Gary Ready Page Graphic Design www.ready-page.com

Your problem is an easy one. Corel Draw is a vector program, and gif's are bitmaps. Corel Photopaint is a Bitmap Program... so just do it on Photopaint, and use the feature export to the web, then select the gif as an animated one, and the size you want it. Now the letters wont pixelate. The Vampmaster The Vampmaster
