It opened fine for me. It's a nice site but I would suggest some navigation at the top of the page on the home page.

Hi, sandwellmind.

I got the page. But it loaded with one of those messages in the lower left of the browser that says "Done, but with errors on page." I don't know what those errors were but...

One things I noticed was that your logo didn't have alt-text. Make sure to add that. The site looks pretty good but figure out what those errors were and it will be better.

Interesting I thought. I got in just fine so I tried again tonight. No problem with IE5.5 but an absolute no go with NS 4.7.

The URL reverts to:
http://www.sandwellmind.com/c:\documents and settings\admin\my documents\my webs\sandwellmind\animation\menu.js

Looked at your site using XP with IE 6.0 and hit the following runtime errors:

(1) Line 33 Error: object expected
(2) Line 38 Error: 'document.allMainTable.style' is null or not an object

As I looked at each link, the same two errors occured, but on different lines.

I'm curious. Anyone have any idea why I'm having no problem with this site in IE5.5 and everyone else is getting runtime errors?

Based on Tony and Paula's comments, I've just looked at the site with my old computer using Windows 95, IE 5.5 and a speed of 26.4 on a 56K modem.

I hit the same error message as Tony mentioned above.

Like Paula, I too am curious as to the errors. While I've hit errors loading pages before on '95 such as Tony mentioned, I never hit "runtime" errors with details until XP. My IT folks at work, who are also just learning XP, have mentioned they think the runtime errors are associated with Java/Java Script, but they too are not yet certain.

Gil, you failed to mention your operating system and browser, perhaps it will help.

I didn't get any errors with Win98 and IE 6.02.

Anyone know where I can get my black & white TV fixed?

I didn't because I fail to see how it matters - if the site produces errors with ANY OS/Browsers it's broke.

FWIW - WinXP Pro / IE6

Gil, I understand it's broke but why is the "broke" not consistent? I'm running IE5.5 and Win2000.

Being "broke" in one browser and not another or one OS and not another is due to inconsistences among browsers/OS's. A great example is MS redesigned IE4 just to "play nice" with the horrible code Frontpage 97 wrote. The first version of IE4 would not parse many FP97 pages, so they "fixed" it.

Maybe writing Unibasic code on a black screen has warpped me, but I fell if it doesn't work on all browsers and all OS's it needs to be fixed. It really doesn't matter which browsers show the "broke".

Well "ouch!" Gil, that was a rather abrupt response to someone who's posted a website here for the help and response of the OutFront community.

I just checked the main forum page, it says: "How to improve your site! We would love to provide positive (and negative!) feedback on your new creation." To me at least, "negative feedback" still means constructive criticism.

Earlier in the day I waited over five minutes for a site listed here to load so that I could provide my feedback. For Sandwellmind's site, I also fired-up this old computer, which is blue-screening every three minutes on average and about to self-destruct. It also houses my website so I don't use it unless necessary.

To me at least, there seems to exist a very interesting problem with Sandwellmind's website - why does it work with some browsers and operating systems, yet not with others? We all post our sites to the Internet so this seems to be a problem that affects all of us.

Hi Gil,
It seems we were both writing responses at the same time and your new one hit before mine.

My response was to your initial response and not the one you just sent to Paula.

Gil,
Thanks. I agree totally with you that a site needs to run across the browser board but must admit I don't know a whle lot about browser builds.

I understand that different browsers can be a problem but are you saying that the same browser (for example IE 5.5 that John and I both tried on different OS) will behave differently depending on which OS it is running with? Am I correct in thinking that the difference also might be the patches that have been applied to the browser?

Thanks for your time and knowledge on this. Not sure where Sandwellmind is but I'm learning a lot.

hmmmmm,

Looks like I got a few problems on my hands.
I am running XP with IE6.0 and I had no problems.

So thanks very much for pointing it all out.

As for the critism, I am grateful for it all.
If I didn't want to hear stuff like that then I shouldn't post stuff on this board!

I'll get to work on it today and I'll let you know when I think I have fixed it.

Cheers!

(oh and by the way...thanks for replying so much. I have never set a folder on fire before!!!!!)

Well....I think I have sorted out the problem so if you wanna go back and let me know what you think I would be very grateful.

It was a really silly mistake on my behalf!!
Stupid HTML menus eh?

Thanks very much (if it wasn't for you guys/girls I would have left a broken site up there!!!!)

=)

Hi, sandwellmind.

I got the site with no errors tonight. Nice work.

Don't forget the alt-text!

Hi Sandwellmind,

The site loaded fast without the runtime errors I experinced before. Looks like you corrected the errors I encountered.

John
