Counter Question - 3/1/2002 13:34:28
I am trying to install a standard frontpage counter on my site. I'm not using any custom gif's either. I published it, but it does not count. It registers "1".

THere was an MS article on this but I couldn't understand it and how it relates to my situation. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to upload any other kind of files to my server? My server is running frontpage extensions.

There are times the installed counters are just a pain in the butt.

Do you have web address so we can check?

Thanks
Erin

plus if you pay us enough...we will refresh the screen a gazillion times! Mine increments everytime I do this.

However, it is still WAY less than what livestats shows.
BUT....Friday was a waaay cool day. Tracking showed a big public service outfit in WA had us on a WEB-TV link. WOWZERS!!!!

FrontPage counters are extension-dependent functions. Assuming you installed it correctly, your extensions are corrupted. Delete them, then reisntall them and try it again. If they don't work you probably did not install them correctly.

This is none of my business, and you can tell me to go pound sand, but hit counters on a web site are a blase' thing. No one does it except newbie designers. Try to re-think using them.

but PHEEEELLLLL..

not all of us are .com sites. I'm a .org, and the guys with the checkbook want to see that counter, newbie or not, since there is a link to their home.

They don't designate funds for the site, or my time. It goes to vital operations. And I mean vital in the truest sense of the word. It goes to basic loads, equipment, deployment, recruiting and training for preparedness to maintain Level 1 response. Go through the site, especially the photo galleries and links, to see the disasters we have been called to.

For the ### of dimes they gave us...you'll understand, I will gladly deal with the counter to enable us to be there ready to take care of you, yours, me, mine...for anyone when OEP calls.

It's not always about "perfect", it's being able to respond.

p.s....

was not my way of saying "go pound sand", you'll know for sure when I do that!

It's my way of saying we should recognize fundamental differences in design approach, content, etc. depending on the intended purpose, message, and audience.

Patty,

You do know you can go in & reset the hit counter to whatever you want. That would make the men with $$$ real happy.

However in all seriousness I have had problems using the standard FP hit counter. Even when the extensions are installed correctly.

Erin...I agree, I know, etc., etc.

Point I was trying to make was customer design specs are not all the same.
